We added some organizers to keep us on track, a desk under the window for me and a cube shelf to organize the kids materials. I got a small fold up one for the open space next to the couch; I can easily put it away against the wall when I don't need it out. My yellow stool is great, but I might need an office chair. A coffee table and bookshelf nearby hold supplies. Have you tried Microsoft Tasks? You can create tasks from individual emails and automatically add items from Planner (that's the tool the Return to Learn groups have tasks assigned in) as well. 

Perhaps you would like some of the Microsoft tools better as full programs rather than as web-browser based programs (or the opposite).

I set up my work area in a corner of my room. I can move my desk to face the blank wall- I like to post sticky notes on the wall with my ideas and reminders to keep me on task. I tried to keep my work space small and neat since I also have to sleep in the same room. My desk at school is usually a mess, but this minimal set up seems to be working for me so far!
