I'm going with the Anchor Activities because last year I had students finishing my assignments ahead of the class and they always asked "what do we do next" Over the summer I plan on creating a few options for my "high-flying" students who always finish ahead of the others. I will most likely have a couple of options available to them. One will be for the students who finish early to proceed to the next chapter and the other will give them the opportunity to earn extra credit. I might even consider using Anchor Activities for my exit ticket.

One differentiation I will implement is the use of Anchor Activities. I already use PBL quite often in my computer lab, but I always have those high achievers who finish projects in an expeditious fashion. Then they are always asking me "What can I do next? Can I play games?"

These anchor activities will be engaging, and a pertinent extension of current content students are learning. In addition, they will be self-driven so students are able to work independently, which will allow me time to work with any struggling students. I plan on using the 3 folder system of Red, Yellow, and Green, where Red would consist of more difficult challenges, Yellow would contain medium ability material, and Green would be easy material. Extra points will be earned based on what level they choose from; but the positives of this system is that the students gets to CHOOSE what he/she wants to do. They don't necessarily have to pick according to their ability either. These folders would consist of:

* Puzzles/Logic games
* Kahoot! review quizzes
* Problems of the Day, which would require some research (Google has this...it's awesome!)
* Typing skills work
* Relating material to technology games/webquests/or activities

I am going to work on creating additional anchor activities this summer and into the beginning of the school year in preparation for early finishers.

I plan on leaving these folders hanging up somewhere in the classroom, so students will know where to go when they finish. I think having anchor activities is an absolute must in my classroom and by implementing this, I will be providing differentiation for all students and ensuring they are remaining engaged throughout the process.

I will devide students into groups, each one with a specific task (e.g. research and write a menu in Spanish; create a shopping list based on the menu, design the layout of the restaurant). This will combined various units (different foods, furniture, numbers, etc.) in a fun project. The idea is that I will teach new units for 25 minutes, and then give the students 25 minutes to implement the newly learned in the project. Once we finish this, I will plan a school trip to a local latino restaurant.

I love the idea of Project Based Learning and did a lot of this last year. I hope to incorporate other ideas that connect more to the real world as projects. Such as, having my students create a real working budget for when they either graduate high school if they don't plan on attending college or after college. So many of our students today are not educated on finances, but when they see the inner workings of "should I pay a bill, or buy this game?" The real world view of what's important comes more into view.

I am also really excited to create Anchor Activities, because I struggled with high fliers in my class for the past two years and I didn't know what to do in some instances. This year, with the ideas, and suggestions of this class, the wonderful ideas, I will be ready day one of teaching for those students who say "I'm done, what now."

One differentiated lesson strategy that I plan to use this Fall is the exit slip strategy, following up with small group meetings. The exit slip strategy will enable me to access my students daily on their understanding of the material. I will post a question at the beginning of class that by the end of the class the student should be able to answer. Before the student can leave the question has to be answered. The next day, I will meet with the students that are struggling with content. I think when learning new Math algorithms if a student doesn’t understand and ask questions he/she will continue to get behind and give up. Exit slips will allow for early intervention with these students. Also, the exit slip will help me to adjust my lesson planning as needed.

Differentiation is definitely something that I plan to use next year to improve overall learning. I plan to use more anchor activities and project based learning in class in the coming year. As I continue to expand my knowledge as a teacher, I continue to learn that several of the activities that I have been doing in class are pieces of named strategies. With this expanded knowledge and continued growth, I am planning to implement additional strategies in the classroom and improve and tweak other assignments that I have used in the past in hopes of making them more challenging and efficient.

One anchor assignment that I plan to continue using in the coming year will be the crossword/word search activities. In the past, scholars would simply complete the worksheets be defining or locating the key terms and module concepts in the word search and crossword puzzles. I used these activities as building blocks for understanding and strengthening learning. After completing the puzzles scholars would be done. In the coming year, I plan to expand the assignment by having scholars define terms on the back of each worksheet. This can be used as a strengthening and re-looping tool to build or expand content knowledge. I will also add expanded the learning with anchor activities for those scholars who are done in 15 minutes and always ask for what's next. By adding anchor and differentiated assignments I am able to customize work for particular scholars, adjusting the difficulty levels as needed.

I also plan to use more project-based learning in individual/small groups and journal/blogging assignments feel as if I am armed with a better understanding of how groups work and how they can be effectively used to maximize learning.

Often times I I have struggled in the area of Differentiation. I love the idea of project based learning in the classroom. Over the year I have done projects in my classroom but I have only allowed one way for students to be graded on the project. I now see that I can differentiate my projects. Projects doesn't always have to be just a document and a power point. I will give my students the ability to choose how they want to submit they project; within my guidelines of course. I feel that this will make the projects more engaging to the students and allow them to be creative. With technology in the classroom being at an all time high, I like the idea of them even creating a video to present. With me being a CTE business education teacher and having assess to a classroom full of computers, there are a lot of resources I can use to make the projects more engaging such as using movie maker to edit the videos.

I plan to use differentiated strategies by incorporating more project based learning into my lessons also, working in groups of 2-3 and being more aware of what each student is bringing to the group. Finding ways to make my lessons more realistic is also what I plan to do for this next semester. I plan to use more on hands situations, such as skits and scenarios rather than writing papers and giving a lot of written work. Having the students put together what they have learned will help differentiated all learning abilities.

In marketing and business courses that I teach, I find project-based learning to be very effective and plan to find other ways to incorporate it into my lesson plans. I find this to be a great way to keep students engaged but also to have them put into practice the content they are learning. One of my favorite projects I do in my principles of business classes is based on the show "Shark Tank". I have my students create a business or product to create a business plan for and then pitch their idea to me. This shows me what they have learned throughout the entire semester and put it into use. Students who struggle with testing find this to be more effective for them to show the information they have retained.

The "One" differentiated strategy that I found very useful is Project Based Learning. This requires the teaching of material to students at varying levels of difficulty, based on the students ability. Struggling students can work with a partner.

Teacher can read questions for struggling students, and have students make sketches, take pictures, and create visuals. Students will leave my class with applicable knowledge of Design and Robotics. They will have the ability to create models based on their designs. All students will complete live models of their designs, in order to formally assess their learning.
Differentiation is providing different avenues of learning for each student to reach their potential .In marketing and business courses that I teach, I find project-based learning to be very effective and plan to find other ways to incorporate it into my lesson plans.

The differentiated strategy that I used this year but did not quit understand was project based learning. I honestly used the project as a means for a final but after accessing how I could get more out of my students from using project based learning I think I am going to examine how differentiated strategies can help me engage my students and allow them to be more active in their learning. Since I have used project based learning but was not effective I will be revisiting how I strengthen my knowledge of project based learning to help in the academic development of my students. One differentiated strategy I would implement is promoting literacy. Literacy plays an important role in teaching and learning math, science, history, art and career/technical studies and I know that I have neglected pushing literacy in my classroom. This year I will promote literacy by finding topics that are interesting to the students and having a set of questions to guide them in their reading and assist in their comprehension of the reading.

In the CTE world, group project-based learning is a critical 21st century skill. I l personally enjoy project based learning because the students get to show me that they have mastered and objective or in the other hand it can also allow some one on one with students that are not grasping the concepts. Project based learning is a great way for me to customize projects to differentiate as well as engage my students with interests.

I also believe giving students options with assignments. For example I may have a 3 current event articles that relate to my lesson. They can choose the best article that interests them the most.
