         <description><![CDATA[<p>Definition: Solutions are homogeneous mixtures where the solute is completely dissolved in the solvent (e.g., saltwater, sugar water).</p><p><br/></p><p>Effect of Light: Solutions allow light to pass through without scattering.</p><p><br/></p><p>Why? The particles are too small (molecular size) to interfere with the path of light.</p><p><br/></p><p>Example: A glass of saltwater appears clear when light passes through.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Definition: Suspensions are heterogeneous mixtures where the particles are large and tend to settle over time (e.g., sand in water, muddy water).</p><p><br/></p><p>Effect of Light: Suspensions block or scatter light significantly, making them opaque or cloudy.</p><p><br/></p><p>Why? The large particles are big enough to scatter light in different directions.</p><p><br/></p><p>Example: Muddy water blocks most of the light.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Definition: Colloids are mixtures with medium-sized particles that are evenly dispersed but not dissolved (e.g., milk, fog).</p><p><br/></p><p>Effect of Light: Colloids scatter light when a beam passes through, causing the Tyndall effect.</p><p><br/></p><p>Why? The particles are small enough to stay suspended but large enough to scatter light.</p><p><br/></p><p>Example: A beam of light is visible when shone through fog or milk.</p>]]></description>
