Deb, I agree with your recommendations and clarifying questions. I had met with the fourth group first thing in the morning during breakfast 8:10 which is typical. At that time I go over what text Kim has been working with the students on. I work on word work with them, We also discuss what they will be doing during Reading Workshop from 10 to 10:30.Working independently is a bit more challenging for these students.
This group leaves for Kim's room at 9:30 and comes back at 10. Also understanding what needs to be completed from Kim and Summer when they come back is often unclear to some of the students. This lends to some confusion, and off task behavior which I try to address. I agree guided reading groups need to be purposeful, and powerful. Questioning to engage students in dialogue is very important. Thank you for you observations and constructive recommendations. I do not think it is necessary to meet at this time. Dawn

Well, I must say our short conversation was an interesting surprise!!!
Since to date I have enjoyed the field of teaching for so many years... And having my own classroom of students, with the multiple needs each individual presents, has been a challenge I have continually welcomed.
My thinking is, your suggestion, while I thank you for offering, I feel sure, would not offer enough intellectual stimulation.
Therefore, it would be moot to investigate along this path.
Sincerely,
Dawn

I had emailed you on June 8 to plan to meet with me today, June 10 at 8:40. The purpose was to review you awareness plan and determine next steps. We reviewed the evaluation components of your Track III awareness plan and I advised you that those targets have not been met yet. I also advised you that I spoke with Superintendent Austin per the guidelines from our Supervision and Evaluation of Professional Staff guidelines (Regulation GCOA) and received his permission to place you on the Intensive Assistance Phase of Track III. I shared with you the concept of this phase as outlined in Regulation GCOA.

Please plan to meet with me on Monday, June 13, at 8:40. At that time we will review areas of needing improvement and review a draft of a second formal improvement plan. Together we will identify sources of support and establish a reasonable time frame for improvement. I want to remind you that you are welcome to bring union representation to any of our meetings. If you have any question, don't hesitate to ask.

Carol

--
Carol S. McGovern
Principal
Mt.
