In reading through the High Quality Teaching criteria I absolutely love that it starts with “relationship driven.” I think that is necessary for quality teaching. I like each bullet point within that category and appreciate that the focus is on supporting the development of the whole student, while building trust and a sense of security and belonging. I also like that it states a highly qualified teacher intentionally personalizes the learning process for each student. I think this plan fits in very well with the idea of Promise to Purpose because all the above sections will in turn create a student that is a lifelong learner with an insatiable desire to learn. (Something I hope for my own son!)

Targets are important, not just to be on the board but as a way to drive instruction the entire class and ensure student ownership of the the learning because they know where they are supposed to go. I also feel that for effective targets to be created teachers need to have an understanding of what the learning need to be (maybe not content experts but at least knowledgeable enough to make sure students are reaching the target and what the target actual is)

Teaching does not always happen in the classroom. Sometimes a teacher must do things "off contract" to build those relationships. Attend a sporting event, a drama production, sponsor a club and get to know your students. Teaching is a love of learning--not a way to get rich. You have to give to receive.

Let the students know you and respect you also. When students know you care for them; they will want to reach the expectations you have set for them. So, quality teaching should also include some failing forward in an atmosphere where the students feel safe enough to fail, get up and try again.

High-Quality Teaching FeedbackThe faculty at KHS was most impacted by the ideas of - Relationships - This was well placed - 1st! This is the cornerstone of all the other goals.Celebrating growth - even small steps forward create motivation and pride.Support - This pushes teachers out of their comfort zone. This will benefit students but require targeted PD to develop.Student driven/tailored - Students should own high-quality teaching. Our classrooms need to be tailored to student strengths and learning styles, and they should be safe environments for risk taking. Classrooms should focus on relevance for students, foster a culture of risk taking, and a culture of innovation.Quotes from the staff:“Inspiring a lifelong, insatiable desire to learn - I want to be that teacher!”“This is the teacher I wanted to be 25 years ago when I started!”“Our students need to know it’s ok to be human, make mistakes, and have the opportunity to learn and improve without ridicule.”“This is exciting and purpose-driven.”“This should be the teacher we aspire to be each day!”
