How are the community and its residents described? What is said about the environment?

The community is very controlled, all the citizens have a job that is decided in the Ceremony of Twelve; 
Each family must have two children, a son and a daughter, the kids are assigned to the family. Each year exactly fifty new babies are assigned and receive names in the ceremony of one;
The rules are decided by the Elders and, once established, it's very difficult to change them;
From one to twelve, the children have ceremonies where they receive specific gifts. For example, at the age nine the are gifted with bicycles. They can't ride bicycles until the ceremony of nine and bicycles are the only mean of transportation;
When they turn eight they lose their 'confort object'. All the kids have one before they are eight. The object is always an imaginary character.  They also start doing volunteer jobs, and it's the only time they can choose what to do. They need to do a specific amount of volunteer hours to participate in the ceremony of twelve.
