Finding your passion

college can put a number on someone. Students are in a new, unknown place, away from most family and friends and put to work. One may lose touch of their true purpose in life under that stressful mountain work. This is a big deal because people only focus on what they're being told in college, not what they want to tell themselves. some steps a student can take to find their purpose in life is to:
1) Don't presume that your passion should be your job (and vise versa)
2) Work out what you hate doing
3) find other things you're good at
4) Ask yourself these questions;
A) What subject could I read 500 books of and never get bored?
B) What could I do for 5 years without getting paid?
C) What would I do if money wasn't a problem?
5) Spend time thinking about what interested you last.
7) Remember what you did as a child

These are all helpful steps that even assisted me in trying to find my passion. Students of EMU can find their passion by attending Eagle fest. This offers all types of clubs, sports organizations, sororities and fraternities. This event is now over sadly, but a student can still find all types of events, clubs and more at https://www.emich.edu/campuslife/
link:
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/jobs/11499695/Eight-ways-to-find-the-true-passion-in-life-that-has-eluded-you.html

Some steps someone should take if having a hard time picking a career:
1. Focus on things you love and things you actually care about.
2. Talk to some people who have the same interests as you and ask them what kind of careers THEY have explored.
3. Make an effort to speak with people who are in the type of field you'd like to enter.
4. Talk with an adviser about what you need to do to move forward with the career you'd want to pursue.
5. NEVER give up on something you love. If you decide to change careers, don't stress. As long as it's what you want to do, then go for it.

Choosing A Major

Choosing your major for college is one of the biggest decisions you'll make in your life. I mean, you're investing time and money, lots and lots of money, to pursue something that will benefit your future. But how do we choose something like this for us? A lot of us have set goals for what we want to do in life and others don't. Many students don't think much about their major, they just go and do whatever it may be. Some problems in choosing a major are wanting to be in the same major as your best friend, choosing a major because it is seen as "easy", one that promises a better job, and not looking far enough into one. This situation comes from lack of encouragement from family, friends, or even their peers. No motivation to pursue something = no college degree. Here are some steps to help you find your future:

1. First, think of some of the things you know you do well in. Whether it be math, sports, or drawing, try and figure out what you're comfortable with doing. Then that can narrow down some of your options for what best suits you!
2. If you can't think of anything, that's okay! There are many online questionnaires you can take to figure out what might be best for you or it'll show something that may catch your eye.
3. If you cannot find something you would be interested in, talk to your EMU adviser, or even Lauren! There are many people on campus you can speak to if you need advice on what to do.
4. Look into the classes you would have to take in order to accomplish your goal. Are they classes you'd be able to handle? Could you get extra help on whatever it is if need be? The library has many sources like the math lab to help you on homework.
5. Don't stress! It is not encouraged a lot, but if you go into something you aren't interested in anymore you can always change what it may be. Changing majors can be more difficult the farther along you are but it is not impossible.

https://www.collegeraptor.com/find-colleges/articles/college-majors-minors/common-mistakes-students-make-when-choosing-a-major/
