I like this book because it shows children how we use natural resources in a way that's easy to understand. I also like the tree's character because it gives an example of being kind without expecting anything in return.
Possible Teaching Points: I could use this book to show children several ways we use trees and help show them why it's important to plant new trees after cutting other ones down.
I could also use this book to teach summarizing by having children name the events of the story.

Date Read: Sep 10th 2016
Date released: Sep 6th 2016
Genre: Children's picture book, fiction (2 of 15)
Age/Audience: 3rd grade and up
Review: Being a fan of the show this story is pulled from, Steven Universe, I was very excited to purchase this book. It is the story of two gems (an alien race), Ruby and Sapphire, and the story of how they met, fell in love, and magically fuse to become the gem named Garnet. In the gem society it is forbidden for two different types of gems to fuse so the two must run away so that Ruby will not be shattered. The story is accompanied by images of sapphire and ruby commenting on the story and their feelings throughout it. I feel this book is great for use in the classroom because Steven Universe is one of Cartoon Network's most popular shows, meaning it's likely the children will be interested in it and familiar with the characters.
Possible Teaching Points: This book would be good for lessons on comprehension in fiction. The pictures in the book are good for children to practice inferring.
The story also present a clear problem and solution that could be used for lessons on retelling, or identifying parts of a story. (beginning, rising action, climax, falling action, end.)
I could also use this book as LGBT representation in the classroom because Steven Universe depicts a wide variety of relationships both traditional and non-traditional, in child appropriate ways and has been praised by supporters of LGBT communities for this.

It's a story about a little spork (his parents are a fork and a spoon), and his struggle to fit in. In the story he tries to change himself to fit in either with the spoons or the forks so that he'll get chosen to be used at the table. In the end he finds out that he's perfect the way he is and finds the job that only he can do. It has wonderful illustrations and I love it's message of self-acceptance.
Possible Teaching Points: This book would be good for lessons on inferring and determining importance.
I also feel that this book could be used with lessons on families as the spoon and fork mixed family is reminiscent of an interracial family.

I like this book because it's a cute, relate-able story for young children. I also like the use of collage materials in the illustrations. It tells the story of little house who was built in the countryside. She finds that she does not like the city and is luckily discovered by her owner's grandchild who has the house moved back out into the country. The illustrations in this book are beautiful and Dr. King's words are as powerful today as they were when he spoke them back in August 28th 1963. I also like the way the book itself and the illustrations enhance the overall feeling of the story,

Possible Teaching Points: I would use this book to teach a lesson on use of dark humor in a story

The character Aunt Josephine is also a favorite of mine and makes for a few of the more humorous scenes in the books.

Possible Teaching Points: I would use this book to do a good compare and contrast between the second and third books because they have a lot of the same elements.

Date read: fall of 2016
Genre: Novel (10 of 10)
Age/Audience: 12+
Review: Keeping with the theme of the others the Baudelaires are shipped off again to live in some strange place with another random guardian. However i feel this is the book were they start to get more into the overall mystery of the story.

Possible Teaching Points: I would use this book to teach a lesson on making predictions, at the end of each book is a fake letter to the editor that gives some clues to what the next book will be about. Using what they know about the previous books and given this new information i would have them make a prediction about the next book.
