This observation led to the consensus that as time progresses the result is that our habitat, societal constructs and ourselves are all slowly decayinging ("physical dissolution")

Years of building and then tearing down buildings, infrastructure, culture, society, objects etc for whatever reason inevitably presents us with layer upon layer of the remnants of time/experience/perceptions gone by.

These layers can be seen physically on our walks. 

The layers themselves are almost a metaphor of the materialistic society we live in. We create to destroy.
