Price: By just comparing the operating systems and not the hardware, the Windows system seems to be a lot more expensive. "The cheapest laptop from Apple starts at $999, but Windows PCs are 3 times more expensive than Macs if you sum up all the software costs. A Mac is around $454 more expensive than a PC, saving up to $543 per Mac, compared with a similarly configured PC."(Endpoint Protector). Linux has a free version.

Ease of use: Mac has been known as the easiest software to use for a long time, even if most people already know how to use Windows or had to learn at some point, Mac is the most simple design. Linux works differently for specific tasks like business-related applications.

Security: In terms of security, the latest macOS (11.3.1 Big Sur) provides a Sealed System Volume, which raises the security on key system files, beyond the reach of any malware; this provides users with more security than Windows.

Built-in tools: Windows usually comes with the most useful common Microsoft tools included even if you need to have a separate account, Mac OS comes with its own versions of this for free such as Pages which is similar to Microsoft Word and the possibility of downloading many creative programs and designing tools. Linux comes with separate benefits like the tool pen Source. "Anyone having programming knowledge can customize the operating system. One can contribute, modify, distribute, and enhance the code for any purpose." (JavaTPoint) which is a huge deal for certain business-related companies.

Storage it takes up:
-"A clean installation of Catalina requires around 12.5GB of storage while an upgrade requires 18.5GB. So the bottom line is you should free up at least 15-20GB for macOS 11. Also, your Mac should have at least 4 GB of Ram and Intel Core M Processor 1.1GHz." (Settap)

WINDOWS: Windows means choice, it's extremely customizable and it's compatible with almost any program in the world, as it makes up 90% of PCs worldwide. You can build and expand your hardware as you may seem fit, but the downside is that making all components work together may be a bit of a hassle. It's also great for gaming, and the cost may be variable and flexible, ranging from as little as $200 to well over the thousands.

MAC: Mac is based on being exclusive and on a single ecosystem. Made by Apple, for Apple. This means that the ecosystem becomes extremely limited based on what it may interact with, but it also means that the apps and programs that it uses will work extremely well and exactly as they're intended to perform within the operating system, meaning that the operating system is the easiest to use by far. The hardware is more expensive, despite not being necessarily better than those of other PCs, mainly due to the brand name and prestige.

LINUX: Linux is known for its versatility. It's open-source, meaning it can be modified and edited by anyone. This creates different variants that alter the functionality with settings and configurations which may be tailored to whichever need. The main reason why Linux thrives is that it's not directly associated with Microsoft or Apple, making it a separate entity that's working for the best of the user, not the company. Linux is mainly substituting, usually free, of any Windows or MacOS app, not always as good, but can get the job done.

If you need a computer for graphic design, we would recommend choosing the latest iMac. Although it is perhaps a bit more expensive than the other options, as it is extremely well adapted to these kinds of tasks. It is very easy to use and has good technical specifications that would allow you to complete whatever you need. The ecosystem limitations are not an issue, as these are computers that will be used in a work environment. There will be a noticeable boost in the productivity of the company, as the old Windows XP that they were using are most likely already outdated, slow, and with a complex interface. Also, the manager may also buy some iMacs and some MacBook Pros, so people who need to travel or move can do so accordingly. Mac OS icons have the same shape as in IOS more 3d graphics. This operating system does not offer touchscreen mode. It operates with Macs with different screen sizes varying from 13-inch screens on MacBooks Air and Pro, to the Pro Display XDR’s 32-inch screen for the Mac Pro. In Mac OS, Carbon supports multiprocessing Services , however it doesnt include Global memory allocation, nor debudding functions. This operating system has a storage capacity from 256 GB to 8TB depending on the specs per Mac, and their prices vary from $999 to $5999.

Linux: Linux 5.12.4
HP ProBook 640 G8 Notebook PC
 The HP Pro Book comes with an Intel® i3-1115G4 processor. This server allows to enable and disable touchscreen mode. We would recommend the Mac OS Big sur for our manager in a graphic design company. The reason for this is that compared to Windows 10 and Linux, it has far more innovative features. Not only does it provides a bigger screen and more storage, but also taking in consideration that this operating system comes in a server made specifically for it, it includes vatious technical specifications making it easier to use and more effective. Something to keep in mind is that Mac provides various different models making it easier to adjust to the users needs (traveling). Besides, Apple offers the Pro Apps, which are LogicPro, Final Cut Pro, Compressor, MainStage and Motion; these are specialized apps that Apple developed in order to help directors, musicians, graphic designers, performers, and more with their work. Compared to the computers that are being used now, there will be a marked difference in productivity, as this computers are far more advanced and upgraded than te old Windows XP. Therefore, it is better to use between the MacBook Pro 13-inch model and the 24-inch model of iMac as both have the same price, but having a difference of portability. Both of these devices have the Apple Silicon M1 chip, which has been acknowledged to be better than most of Intel processors; making it all of Apple, iOS with the M1 make the Macs’ speed, graphics, and performance so much better in comparison with Intel Mac models. Although it is true that these computers are more expensive regarding the others, they’re worth the purchase, as these computers guarantee effectiveness and durability.

b) Research

Windows: The new Edge browser is the biggest change, but the improvements to the Alt + Tab shortcuts and the Start menu make the Windows 10 October 2020 Update (or 20H2) worthwhile.

Mac OS: Catalina, the latest version of macOS, offers beefed-up security, solid performance, the ability to use an iPad as a second screen, and many smaller enhancements. It also ends 32-bit app support, so check your apps before you upgrade.

Linux: Linus Torvalds officially released today the Linux 5.12 as the latest and greatest kernel series for Linux-based operating systems, bringing numerous new features and improvements for better hardware support.

  • The macOS operating system is based on Unix, which is sandboxed, meaning it can be very difficult for viruses to do any damage. 
  • 6‑core 10th-generation Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 4.5GHz, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD.


     Linux: Linux 5.12.2
   
  • The Intel eASIC N5X Device (custom logic-based chip to power all types of devices) support lands in this Kernel.

  • Like every Kernel released, the several file systems see more fixes and performance improvements.

  • Qualcomm mobile phone graphics units Adreno 508, 509, and 512 support added in this cycle which are part of Snapdragon units in mobile devices.

 
d) Recommendation

We would strongly recommend the use of Mac OS Catalina as it is a more reliable OS compared to Linux, and offers more innovative features in relation to what Microsoft has to offer. Although Mac OS could be a little bit more expensive, from our perspective and from the incredible features listed above we think is the best option for a graphic design company. The Mac model we strongly recommend is the 27-inch iMac with 5K Retina Display, which has a brightness of 500 nits and a screen resolution of 5120 by 2880 with support for one billion colors.
