Another similarity is that warriors with codes of honor were hired to protect.Knights were used in Europe, and in Japan you could HIRE A SAMURAI. Some of the great ideas from the past were also disregarded. Japan did have less invaders to deal with however, and there were no Holy Wars, so with some families ruling for small amounts of time, the situation was somewhat better in Japan.

As well as that, knights in Medieval Europe were expected to have unwavering loyalty, Japan's samurais had the Code of Bushido which was pretty much the same thing as Europe's Code of Chivalry.
