Scene: At first, the boys are wondering about a few details and asking Jody about his pony. Jody then shows responsibility for the pony by taking care of Gabilan and grooming/currying him. He explains and introduces how to use the tools for the pony and what each one was. Later, they left and Jody started playing with the pony. He polished the pony and fixed his hair. Finally, his mother tells him that he should have done his chores. Meanwhile, she was still proud of him for taking care of the pony. In the end, Jody learned responsibility.

My father might want me to help him with the stock.

Narrator: He showed the supplies for the horse. Jody’s friends were constantly searching for something to trade in exchange with the pony. (Shows the scene that is being described) After they had left, Jody started playing with the pony. (the pony kicks his leg up and Jody puts his arm on his shoulder to calm him.)

Narrator: Jody was trying to imitate Billy Buck.

Narrator: Jody continued brushing Gabilan’s hair with a curry comb. He braided the pony’s hair many times before he came to the conclusion to brush the pony’s hair down again. In the end, there was hair almost everywhere. A few minutes later, his mom came in silently.

Mother: “Have you forgot the wood-box? It’s not far off from dark and there’s not a stick of wood in the house, and the chickens aren’t fed.”

Jody: “I forgot, ma’am.”

Mother: “Well, after this do your chores first. Then you won’t forget. I expect you’ll forget lots of things now if I don’t keep an eye on you.”

Jody: Can I have carrots from the garden for him, ma’am?

Mother: Oh, I guess so, if you only take the big tough ones.

Jody: Carrots keep the coat good.

Narrator: Jody’s mother felt a rush of pride that her son is taking so much responsibility in the horse.
