I chose country because it is a genre I don't usually listen to but I do feel as if it does have an importance to today's social and cultural world. Socially, country music can be a point of relativity to some people. These people could be really blocked out from the "modernness" of today's society and they may like it that way. Some country music can have lyrics that these people can relate to despite not being close to modern society. An example of this can be a song by Luke Bryan called "What Country Is". Culturally, country music usually brings a sense of community towards people. Most of the time, country music will either be about a relationship, or about family. With usually having such a family oriented theme, country music can be used to bring people together, whether it be at a BBQ, or a tailgate, country music will most likely be heard. Growing up, my dad would always play the song "Family Tradition" by Hank Williams Jr.. Though it isn't really about "family", it represents the importance of the family aspect in country music. My mind didn't change about the genre because it's not that I don't LIKE country music, it's simply that I do not listen to it as much anymore. Being born and raised in South Texas, I was always surrounded by country music everywhere I went.
