         <description><![CDATA[<div>Society was what allowed Hester to believe her A stood for “able”. The townspeople viewed her as strong for being able to stand all the hate she was given for her adultery. After a while, society started to show sympathy towards her after seeing how helpful she was. This allowed her to becoming strong and not ashamed, something she may not have been able to do herself.</div>]]></description>

In contrast, when society starts to accept her in Chapter 13, she becomes more conscience of her role and place in society even though they don’t accept her entirely yet.
