The target audience for my advertisement are parents who are recently divorced (within a couple of years) with children. Additionally, it is more geared towards fathers who complain to their child, or regularly talk to their child about their former partner, ideally the child's mother. The age of the children in question should be aged in their early teens to their late teens, as this is the age range in which children are most emotionally vulnerable as their mind still hasn't fully developed.

The message of this advertisement that I want to convey is that your children should not have to hear their parents opinions or issues that they have about their mother or father. This is because it can affect the child's mental health and mood. Additionally, I want the message also to tell those parents who are suffering from separation to get professional help from a psychologist or psychiatrist, as they can offer solutions which children are unable to provide.

Videos
We All Have Problems" - Mental Health Awareness Ad
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCqm0V8nerY -

This advertisement video is an example of how I want the audio to work in my advertisement. I liked the echo of the different thoughts that the girl was having, running through her head and how they all began to pile on top of each other. It gave the impression that all those thoughts were just noise and that they inhibit us from being able to think clearly which is what I want to do with my advertisement. I also like when the audio just stopped when it cut out of the girls head, however, I am unsure as to whether or not I will include that in my advertisement. The visuals are another thing that I give credit to. I like the close-up shots to show her anxiety, and the lighting worked, however, I don't think that that sort of lighting is something that I will use for my advertisement. Also, the font was too simple and amateurish for an advertisement.

UK Anti-Drink Driving Advert
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQtTREndJKk -

I like this advertisement because of it primarily uses the lighting that I was thinking of using for my advertisement. The background being cast mainly in darkness, while the man is at the forefront of the advertisement, and is lit reasonably well so that he is undoubtedly the focal point of the shot. I also like how the camera gradually zooms in closer and closer to the man's face, as that is also what I envisioned to do with my own advertisement. I also like the cut back at the end of the lighting from the start of the ad, as a contrast to the rest of the advertisement and to emphasise the message of the ad. However, I do not see myself using this technique for my own ad.

Progressive Insurance - (Extended Cut) Dad Support Group Session - TV Commercial 2017 (1:30)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SAmk_2Odms
I like this advertisement, mainly for the lighting and the sound. I liked the lighting as it stayed consistent throughout the entire advertisement. It wasn't black and white but it was fairly dull, which is an option I may take for lighting in my advertisement. Additionally, I also liked the sound of this ad. I liked the slow piano that played in the background, as it really set the mood to be somewhat depressing. However, I don't believe the music was right for what they were selling which is insurance. Also, I would personally raise the music to be a bit louder as I thought it was too soft. Finally, I thought that it dragged on for too long as I did not know what it was they were selling until the last quarter of the ad.

Millerson, G 1991, Lighting for TV and Film, Focal Press, UK
This book gives an overview and in-depth view of the different forms and techniques of lighting. It was from this source, I was able to know different techniques that I am able to use for my advertisement. From this source, I now know the benefits of using frontal lighting. Through frontal lighting I will be able to hide the shadow of the actor as the shadow will fall directly behind it, Additionally through the lack of shadow, colour, tone and texture will be more dignified and noticeable (Millerson G, 1991). Finally, through this, I know that for better lighting that won't reflect back towards the lens, to place the lamp either to the side or directly above the camera (Millerson G, 1991).

Tormod B, Serlachius AS, Sivertsen B, Petrie KJ, Hysing M, 2017, Cumulative effects of negative life events and family stress on children’s mental health: the Bergen Child Study
This report gave insight into the effects of family stress and negative life events on the mental health of children. From this source, I was able to find that while family stress and negative life events can take a part in the decline of a child's mental health, it is not the sole reasoning for it (Tormod B, 2017). From this, I decided to not make mental illness for children any form of focal point in my advertisement, and instead just show how stress can have an impact on children instead.

Gareth Lawlor. 2018. How Sound Effects a Person's Mood - DkIT Mahara. [ONLINE] Available at: https://mahara.dkit.ie/view/view.php?id=23810.
This source, went into detail about how listening to different songs and music can affect a person's overall mood and the effect it has on the brain. This source was able to help me as it allowed me to find what type of music I should be using for my advertisement. In a study, it should that a good portion of people who listen to music was able to recall emotional memories just via listening to music (Lawlor G, 2014). in addition to this, it also showed that to get someone into a more depressing mood a song should be less than 60bpm (Lawlor G, 2014). Overall it showed me that I need to have a slower song to get a depressed response from someone and that listening to those kinds of songs are able to envoke an emotional response from someone.

IThe idea for the video is that there will be only a single shot of a child's/teenage, with the shot slowly zooming in towards the child's/teenagers face.

The lighting for my advertisement is planned to have black and white lighting. With the background being shrouded in shadow with the majority of the lighting being placed on the child/teenager in the centre of the shot. Alternatively, the colouring could also be very muted, creating a similar kind of feeling.

Additionally, I was going to have some slow and sombre music playing in the background, which people commonly associate with sad things. This is so that the audience can remember that music and whenever they hear they associate it with this advertisement.

The only other sound that will be heard in the advertisement will be the voice of an adult male (a father), echoing throughout the video saying different things about the child's mother.

Finally, I want the video to end with the screen cutting to black after zooming in on just the child's face. The child is going to look s though they are going to shout something out, whether or not this will be heard, I'm still considering. Afterwards, the text is going to come up stating the message of the advertisement.

The text that I want to appear on screen will say something along the lines of "Your kids aren't your counsellors, Seek professional help so they don't have to," along with the website showing up on screen.

Another example, of the lighting I was picturing for my advertisement. The lighting shows the actor very clearly, while also shrouds him in darkness. This could be used in my ad as symbolism, for the child being dragged further into the darkness (depression, mental/emotional instability) every time a parent complains. The only difference that I was thinking was a tad bit more visibility for the background of the actor.
https://www.pinterest.de/pin/545920786051560712/

The font has a similar feeling to the font used at the end of car crash commercials, and that was the feeling I was going for. The reason for this is because it provides a feeling of something or someone being damaged, and the look of the font after a sombre or unsettling advertisement, I believe gives off a greater and more memorable impression of what the text is saying.
http://www.1001fonts.com/driving-around-font.html
