I think that they were a representative democracy because the author writes, “Massachusetts bay was run by men. Women could not speak at town meetings or vote.” In democracy’s you vote to decide on things like laws, or representatives. This piece of text evidence shows that the puritans voted. It also says that Massachusetts Bay was run by men, not someone chosen by god, like a theocracy.

Ella B.

I think that the Puritans government was a theocracy, for people said the god controlled what the leaders did. The Puritans were pure, hence the name, so they followed god and the Bible for they believed that god decided and controlled what they did in their everyday life. IF one were to disobey gods laws, or the Bible, they would be severely punished, and might receive penalty of death. According to the text, “ Puritans followed the Bible.” This shows that the Puritans followed the Bible. To sum it all up, The Puritan government was a Theocracy.
PLEASE LIKE MY POST!

I think that it is both a Representative Democracy and Theocracy. I think that it is theocracy because they had based their ways of life and government heavily around religion. The text states, “The Puritans believed they were doing God’s work. People who did not do God’s work sinned, so they were punished.” This means that they lived life doing God’s work and focusing on religion which is in a theocracy. The author also wrote, “Women could not speak at town meetings or vote.” This is very common in theocracies that women do not get a lot of freedom. And it is also a representative democracy because they would vote. The text states, “Women could not speak at town meetings or vote.” This indicates that people voted but women could not. This shows that it is both a representative democracy and a theocracy.

I think it is theocracy because it has religious leaders. This is because, “ Puritans thought civil authorities should enforce religion” This shows they had religious leaders because they had an enforced religion. This makes them a theocracy because they had religious leaders. They follow the holy bible and because they thought that a religion should be enforced by authorities or by a religious leader witch is a trait of theocracy. This means they are a theocracy. They also enforced religion witch also is a trait of a theocracy. In a representative democracy you can have any religion. You have the freedom to choose.
