Locke's three main principles included in natural rights are life, liberty, and protection of property. He believed natural rights were fundamental to a healthy and beneficial government. John Locke believed government should not oppress its citizens but rather have a free government. This idea of free government led Locke to oppose tyranny in favor of a free government with checks and balances. Concerning God Locke favored more towards Deism but John Locke acknowledged the necessity for the understanding of God. The belief that God has set all in motion including reason and thought and therefore God has given humanity certain rights the government shall not infringe on. The Declaration of Independence and Constitution are based on the idea that humans has unalienable rights given by a creator. This same logic is see in John Locke's writing when he writes about natural rights and three of the main natural rights are life, liberty, and property. In the Declaration of Independence the founders include that all humans are given rights by a supreme being and those rights are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Also included in the foundation of the United States is the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights is meant to guarantee citizens rights and to limit the power of government. Locke believed government had certain duties to the citizens within its controlled. Locke also believed in the separation of powers. Locke has the powers of government separated into three which are the legislative, executive, and the federative power. The legislative branch is to made up of two parts the House of Representatives and the Senate. The House of Representatives employees are be based on states population and the Senate's employees are given two to each state. The original idea of the legislative branch was for the legislative branch number of elected officials would be based on population but the smaller states opposed because the larger states would have total control. After arguing on how many elected officials each state would get the founding fathers and others decided and voted that the House would be based on population and the Senate would be a set number being the same for each state. Also included in being the president is also being the commander-in-chief of the armed forces. Under the president are fifteen departments meant to help the president in areas of taking off some of the work load. Another job of the president is to enforce laws that Congress has passed through the legislative process. The design of the president is to hold one-third of the power between the branches. The president has the power to veto bills from congress and to make pardons. Even though the president has veto power Congress can still override the veto by a two-thirds vote. The judicial branch is made up of nine justices one being the chief justice and the others being associates justices. The process of becoming a justice starts with the president. The president must bring a potential justice in front of the Senate and the Senate must approve of the justice. This process sets the judicial branch apart from the other two branches in that the judicial justices are decided by elected officials while the legislative and executive branches are voted in by everyday people. Another difference is justices remain in power until death, retirement, or impeachment. According to the Federalist papers it is important to make the term of the supreme justices for life because the few who are good enough to fill the role are few and with a life term justices will not be swayed one way or another in order to favor the president for reelection. The job tasked to the judicial branch is to determine if a law is constitutional or not. One simple thing an average Joe can do is simply go out and vote. Voting is as simple as look up the candidates running and see which one aligns with the voters beliefs and needs. The next step in helping the government is going out for the candidate of ones choosing and doing what needs to be done. After one has seen the political life the next step is running for office. No special degree or title is needed just the love the country and being able to speak in front of people. The legislative and executive branches do have restrictions on who can run for office the process is fairly simple and kind to those wanting to try politics as a career. The judicial branch on the other hand will require a law degree but the option is always there.
