Trevor fiddled with his fingers as he waited backstage for his turn, beads of sweat rolled down his face. He inhaled sharply, trying to remain his composure. I can do it. He thought to himself, silently rehearsing the lyrics of his song. Trevor felt more confident and waited patiently for his turn.

  “Next, we have Trevor Tan!”

Trevor’s ears perked up as he heard his name, breathing in deeply, he walked up on the huge stage. The audience gave a round of applause to welcome him. Trevor held the microphone to his chest, confident. When the music started playing, Trevor was about to open his mouth to sing, but he caught sight of a certain group in the crowd.. the school’s bullies. Trevor was certain that he saw the group snicking among themselves and giggling mischievously. Trevor’s mind went blank. Are they laughing at me? Perhaps they were right, i don’t have a talent for singing… So many eyes are on me..! He thought, his heart pounding on his rib cage, his eyes darted around the crowd, all eyes were on him. Anxiety crept to him, his dry lips trembled as beads of cold sweat rolled down his pale face. His breathing became laboured as he felt his chest tighten, his throat hitched, the only sound coming from him was a small squeak. To make matters worst, his sweaty hands accidentally dropped the microphone! Making the whole crowd giggle, one of the bullies, Matt, smirked mischievously as he shouted “Booooh!”. The other bullies chuckled as they did the same. Trevor had never felt so humiliated in his life! His face blushed a bright red as he crouched down to pick up the microphone. Then, he heard the sound of fabric tearing behind him, he blushed even more as he realised that the back of his pants tore! The whole crowd laughed heartily, Trevor quickly stood up and tears swelled up in his eyes, he worked so hard for this, only to get humiliated! His face blushed a deeper red if it’s even humanely possible. Trevor looked around the crowd who were laughing their heads off, he felt so embarrassed that he covered his blushing face with his hands and walked to the backstage in embarrassment.

It was a typical Tuesday afternoon, and I was hurrying through the lobby of a busy shopping mall. The crisp fall air had left me chilled, and I was eager to get inside, where the warmth and the hum of commerce promised comfort. My mind was preoccupied with thoughts of a meeting I had later that day and a grocery list I needed to remember. I barely noticed the freshly polished floor that gleamed under the fluorescent lights, a detail that would soon prove to be my undoing.

As I crossed the threshold, my foot met the slick surface with an unsettling squish. Time seemed to elongate as I felt my balance falter, the world tilting precariously beneath me. It was as if I had been cast in a slow-motion film, every detail of the impending disaster etched in crystal clarity. My arms flailed, desperately trying to regain equilibrium, but the floor had other plans. The next few seconds were a chaotic ballet of flailing limbs and futile attempts at stability.

The climax of the incident unfolded with the kind of dramatic flair that only life can muster. In a crescendo of embarrassment, I slipped, my feet flying out from under me in a spectacular arc. It was as if I had been propelled by an invisible force, my descent exaggerated by the sheer force of my own momentum. My arms, once flailing with a semblance of control, now waved helplessly in the air. For an instant, I felt like I was suspended in time, a human pinwheel twirling uncontrollably in an invisible cyclone.

The impact was less painful than it was humiliating. I landed with a resounding thud, the kind of sound that seems to reverberate through the very core of one's being. My body splayed out on the floor, and the pristine lobby, which had moments before seemed so inviting, now felt like a stage set for a comedy of errors. A collective gasp from the onlookers punctuated the moment, followed by a wave of sympathetic chuckles that only served to deepen my chagrin.

The aftermath was a parade of well-meaning strangers rushing to my aid, their faces etched with concern. Their offers of help were sincere, but each gesture only seemed to highlight the absurdity of the situation. As I sat up, brushing off the remnants of my dignity, I couldn’t help but notice the irony: while I had been so intent on avoiding a slip in my schedule, I had instead become the star of an impromptu show that I had never wished to perform.

Reflecting on the experience, it’s clear that the incident was more than just a physical misstep. It was a reminder of the unpredictable nature of life and the importance of maintaining a sense of humor in the face of our most embarrassing moments. In that brief moment of vulnerability, I was reminded that we are all actors on the stage of life, sometimes cast in roles we didn’t audition for, but that’s what makes the show interesting.

The wet floor incident, while initially mortifying, became a source of personal growth and a lesson in humility. It taught me that while we may not always have control over the slippery surfaces of our lives, we do have the power to navigate them with grace—or at the very least, with a hearty laugh at our own expense.

My heart thumped continuously while I waited for my turn to present . My hands and feet became incredibly sweaty . I was worried I would mess up on stage in front of the entire school. If it was not for my extreme anxiety I would have not been that worried or afraid . I then rehearsed what I was going to say when I am presenting about my hobby. Just then I was reminded that I was going on stage in a few minutes or so by one of the directors. After about a few minutes, I saw the person presenting before me walking backstage. The host of the show then announced," Next up we have Vanessa from 5A ! She would be presenting about her hobby today." I then stepped onto the stage ready to start sharing but I heard a murmurs from the friend group that I hated." Why is she even on stage her presentation was not even good, in fact it was horrible! The girls then laughed out loud. Hearing them, my confidence was at 1%. I froze in worriedness and no words could come out of my mouth. But, I snapped back to reality and started to introduce myself.

The stage lights were blinding, and I could barely see the audience. My heart raced so much that I felt like everyone could hear it. Despite practicing my performance countless times, everything seemed to go wrong the moment I stood under those lights. I tried to speak, but my mouth was so dry that the words got stuck. Helpless, I forced a stiff and akward smile. The giggles from the audience only made me more nervous. As I fumbled with my notes, every little noise, like the rustling of paper, felt much louder than usual. It was as if every mistake was being magnified, and I couldn’t seem to recover.

Then, disaster struck: one of my props fell off the table with a loud crash. My face turned bright red as I scrambled to pick it up, but I couldn’t get my lines right. The audience’s reaction mixed laughter with discomfort. Their eyes felt like they were watching my every misstep. I felt more and more uneasy as I tried to continue, but the minutes seemed to drag on forever. All I wanted was for the performance to end as quickly as possible.

When it finally finished, the applause was weak . I hurried offstage, overwhelmed with a wave of embarrassment and disappointment. Backstage, I replayed every embarrasing moment in my head, wishing I could go back and fix everything. My parents, friends and teachers had all been in the jeering crowd. The stage, which once seemed like an exciting place to shine, now felt like a spotlight on all my mistakes.

Garys heart pounded againts his chest, cold sweat was dripping down his forehead. He thought to himself :what if my stage fright takes over my speech, what will i do?Gary reminded himself that he was the leader of the debate team and he needed to nail this speech. He took a deep breath and said the speech in his head, after that he felt way more confident and waited patiently for his turn. " Next up with have... Gary lee!"When Gary heard his name, he breathed in deeply and walked up on the huge stage. The whole audience gave gave hime a round of applause and welcomed him. Gary held the microphone close to his lips and felt extremely confident. As soon as the music started playing Gary said his first few words when he caught sight of the horrendous school bullies they were giggling and smirking at Gary. Garys mind went blank he thought to himself: are they laughing at me? maybe i am not good enough to say this speech. They are right i really do not deserve to be on this stage right now. So many eyes were staring at hime he could not give up just now. Anxiety crept to him, he could not breath properly and he wished there was a huge hole that could swallow him whole, Suddenly one of the bullies yelled " booooooooooohhhhhhhh!" the rest of the bullies followed him. Gary had never felt so humiliated before and ran to the back of the stage as tears welled up in his eyes, he never ever wanted to go on that stage ever again.

As I sat in class, a sudden, searing pain stabbed through my abdomen like a hot knife throught butter. My stomach twisted and contorted, like a worm writhing in agony. The pressure built, a swelling tide of discomfort that threatened to engulf me whole. I felt my gut churning, a cauldron of acidic protest, as if my very insides were rebelling against me. The air seemed to vibrate with tension, heavy with the promise for an impending explosion. My face burned with anticipation, my eyes darting wildly in search of an escape route, a refuge from the humiliation that was sure to come. And then, the inevitable: a low, rumbling growl, like thunder in the distance, growing louder, closer, until.... "PWOOOOOOSH!" I finally gave in, unleashing the tremendous fart that I had been holding in for the past minute or so. As the PWOOOOOSH still echoed through the air, a scorching wave of humiliation exloded through my face, my face turned beetroot red. My eyes widened in horror, my mind racing with the devastating implications of what had just happened. The room seemed to shrink, the walls closing in on me like a vise, as I realized everyone around me had witnessed my mortifying moment. The weight of their collective gaze crushed me, a crushing blow that left me breathless and trembling with shame.

Suddenly, my mind went blank. I held the microphone tight in my hands and froze. I looked around, thinking of my next move. I stayed up all night just to practice for that two-minute song. My parents used to say that hard work always pays off but I did not think I could confidently say that. Everyone was whispering to each other, probably making fun of me.

“Did that girl really just forget the lyrics to that song? It’s such a simple song, I was able to memorise that song in ten minutes! It’s so funny to watch her panic on the stage!” a girl with two ponytails whispered to her friend.

I trembled like a leaf. I looked dumber than a sack of potatoes just standing on the stage doing nothing. As every minute went by, more and more butterflies appeared in my stomach. I looked at the clock. I just had a minute left to be on stage and I was not even half way through the song. My heart started pounding way faster.

“If I don’t do something now, then when?” I asked myself.

"Don't Amelia. Amelia don't start crying. Stop!" I told myself repetadly. I could not help it. A sturbon tear rolled down my cheek. It felt like time had stopped. Thousands of eyes were staring at me. Even worse I could near muffled giggles from all around. I wish the floor will just swallow me up and I would disappear. Lying on the floor feeling helpless I just started crying. "AARG!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. "I HATE LIFE!" I continued. There was absolute scilence in the canteen. I have trully made a fool of myself. First my teacher calls me in front of the whole class, my best friend leaves me them I slip in front of - what half of the school? I really needed someone to just be there to listen but she was gone. With a face full of tears I picked myself up and ran. I wish I could not stop running.

''its picture day!'' Emma squealed in delight. Emma's school photos were not exactly the best but this time she was determined to make this the best school picture she could ever have. She put on her favourite dress and headed to school . Along the way as she walked down the school hallway to her classroom, she saw the school cleaner. She was mopping the floor and she told Emma that the floor was slippery and she should be more careful. At that moment as Emma was talking to the cleaner she did not see a puddle of water and lost balance. While trying to keep her balance she saw kids from the corner of her eye laughing at her and her face turned red. This is going to be the worst school picture ever! Emma thought to herself.

As I strolled to the table my friends were sitting at, the aroma of my pawn noodles filled the air. “There is nothing better than a big bowl of the best noodles ever!” I whooped in delight. I continued walking to the table when I spotted a “Caution, wet floor” sign right in front of the table my friends were sitting at. I ignored the sign and kept on walking, “the floor cannot possibly be that wet,” I told myself. I suddenly let a high pitched shriek, “ahh!” I had slipped on the wet floor. My bowl of prawn noodles flew out of my hands. It sailed through the air, finally landing on the floor. The bowl shattered into billions of pieces and my noodles could be found across the floor. I landed on my back, following by the rest of my body. I looked discombobulated, reeling from what had just happened. The whole canteen broke out into laughter and chatter. Some students pointed at me and laughed, some students took out their phone and recorded me.

“Look at that fool on the floor! His expression says it all!” A boy chucked. Any semblance of dignity I had was soon gone. I wished the ground would open up and swallow me. Embarrassment resounded throughout my whole body, like an orchestra of blaring trumpets and crashing cymbals. A pang of mortification hit me like a meteorite. I sat on the floor in embarrassment as everyone stared at me.

Elizabeth checked her watch for the millionth time that day! "When were her friends going to arrive?" she thought as she looked at her watch. They were supposed to meet each other at the mall at half past nine so that they could have a nice dinner together before heading to the movie hall as the movie would only start at quarter to eleven but it was nearly ten and her friends had not yet arrived. Suddenly the antique clock at the restaurant where she was waiting chimed ten times. Just as the clock finished chiming ten times, a little child at the front of the restaurant puked! Two staff members immediately put up a sign over where the person puked. Finally after waiting so long, Elizabeth saw her friends enter the restaurant. She immediately ran to tell her friends to be carful because someone puked there but she was too slow. She watched in horror as her best friend, Lily, slipped on the puddle of puke. Time seemed to slow down and every action felt amplified by a thousand. All Elizabeth could do was stand there and watch mouth agape as Lily flailed her arms around trying to regain her balance. Before I could process what had happened, Lily fell! Her legs dangling and her outfit ruined. I immediately rushed to help her as hordes of laughter rolled out. I could tell that she was super embarrassed as her face blushed radish red! To make matters worse, I let a big 'whoosh' that I had been holding in for the past two minutes. I was so embarrassed that this should happen to me and my friends on today of all days!

The loud roar of applause and cheers surrounded the hall as Rachel concluded her performance with a high note. "She has the voice of an angel! " The judges exclaimed as they clapped in amazement. I watched Rachel as she bowed and left the stage with her head held high. My nervousness reached an all time high as I saw her perfomance, she really had one of the most beautiful voices I had ever heard. I twiddled with my thumbs nervously, unsure how I was supposed to perform right after her. "There's no way I can sing right after that performance! " My doubts were interrupted by the loud shrill of the.microphone, " Up next, we have Kylie Lai from Haig girls school! " The audience gave a small round of applause as I walked up on stage. My heart began beating faster with every step I took. Out of nowhere, I tripped on my dress, the loud "rip! " sound alerted the judges as I frantically tried to adjust my dress, The tear was painfully obvious as I turned to face the microphone. As the beat of the music began to play, I tried to reorganize myself and start singing the lyrics, but all that came out was a short squeak and a few mutters. A boy seated at the front crossed his arms and gave a lot a "booo" as I continued fidgeting and trying(and failing miserably)to sing on stage. Others around him started to do the same jeers and shocked expressions. I wiped the sweat on my brow as more beads of perspiration rolled down my forehead. " This could not be happening! " I thought to myself as whole Hall began to be filled with an air so sharp it was hard to breathe. As I continued spouting out the lyrics, the music abruptly stopped, signalling that it was time for me to leave the stage before I embarrassed myself further. The judges sighed in dissatisfaction, "That's one less competitor. " "Her nerves must have gotten to her. " They stated as I ran off the stage, on the verge of tears.

(...)"Please welcome... Lina Tan!"

This was it. The time when I could finally show everyone my passion for singing. I swayed gently to the music and belted out the melodious song I had been practicing everyday. Each word came out of my mouth just as I had practiced. I was doing it! However, the horror was yet to come...

Just then, my mind went blank. I could not remember anything at all! I stopped abruptly, not knowing what to do. "What is she doing? Isn't she supposed to continue?" I heard a girl with a smug grin on her face tell her friend and the duo giggled. As soon as I heard that, I trembled like a leaf. I wanted to run and never show my face again. However, I could not. I was mortified and stood rooted to the spot, staring at the crowd before me.

All of a sudden, my stomach writhed in pain and a torrent of discomfort surged through me. I shut my eyes tight trying to stop it from overflowing but to no avail. I was not able to hold it in and... "BRRRUMP." The microphone I was holding let that horrid sound reverberate through the air.

Instantly, the hall quieted down so much such that you could hear a pin drop. After comprehending what just happened, a few of the students burst into fits of laughter and my face was as red as a tomato. I wished the ground would open up and swallow me whole as the everyone started to laugh their hearts out. I knew that I would be the talk of the town for the next few weeks, or even worse, a few months! "The humiliation would never stop," I thought to myself as my heart pounded like African drums. Unable to control my emotions, my eyes welled up and I gave in. Tears cascaded down my cheeks as I ran as fast as my legs could carry me. I raced backstage and sat in a deserted corner. With my face buried in my hands, I muttered under my breath, "Why? What happened? All those days of hard work..." Suddenly, I heard soft footsteps coming my way and I frantically looked around to find an escape route. Was someone coming to humiliate me again?

A stench smell waivered around my nose. What is that smell? I wondered. Soon, I entered the bustling part of the mall, the food court. Everyone around me looked full of disgust. Everyone had gotten out of the way, once I was in their presence. I went to toilet to go check. Whislt I was alone, the presence of the stenchful smell still had appeared. The sooner I had known, the smell, the stentchful smell, had been coming all from - me! My face was as red as a tomato. A wave of embarassment had washed over my face.

Cheers and applause echoed through the four walls of my beautifully decorated classroom as a sauntered confidently to the front of the classroom with a smug grin plastered on my face. Holding my well written script in my hands, I began to describe every small detail that I had encountered during the recent June holidays. Everyone listened in tranquil and amazement. The class was simply immersed in my wonderous tale. Halfway, I felt as if someone had stabbed me through my stomach like a hot knife throught butter. My stomach churned and twisted and a feeling of discomfort and agony over comed me. The pain and pressure gradually increased and I finally gave up. "Prrrrrrrrrrrrrrtttttttttttttt!!!" The fart that was in me finally sprung out. Eyes after eyes turned to stare at me. My eyes grew as wide as saucers as I chocked on the horrid smell that I had let out. Everyone broke into fits of giggles, some sniggered and the teacher was speechless. I burned with humiliation as I heard suppressed laughter and hushed whispers. Flabbergasted, I sped off to the toilet but ended slipping on a massive puddle of grape juice spilled by classmate earlier. My pants tore into half and everyone cackled when they saw my cute lucky underwear. It was like my worst nightmare coming into reality...

I waited with a bated breath as my name was called out . "Why did I participate in this?" I thought to myself as the anxiety started kicking in. I had participated in the yearly singing competition just because I wanted to skip CCA. And by doing so, I had unknowingly made a deal with the devil to sing in front of the whole school in a singing competition. "Next up we have Brooke Lim, from Primary 5!" The announcers' sudden exuberance of spirit suddenly broke my train of thought . "I'm actually going to sing!" I thought to myself. I hadn't actually processed the fact that I was going to sing- in front of thousands of pairs of piercing eyes that were going to laugh at me. Not only could I not sing, I was terrible at it! The last time I sang, it made my cousin had laughed hysterically at me. I vowed to myself that I would never ever sing again, yet here I was. After the initial reality check, I had finally realised how big of a hole I had dug myself into.

I tried walking up to the mic but it felt as thought my legs were glued to the floor. I felt my mind go blank as my palms started sweating profusely. By this point, I felt my heart start beating rapidly as my legs could not stop shaking uncontrollably. "Just get it over with, just get it over with," I thought to myself as I grabbed the mic, whilst still dazed and disoriented. I looked up at the sea of expectant eyes , and my family members. There was Zoey, the exact same cousin that had previously laughed at me. A sudden surge of emotion rushed through me, seeing her condescending grin. It felt as if I was set up for failure by her. I closed my eyes and just started singing.

After singing for a while, I carefully peeked open my eyes, fully expecting the crowd to be 'booing' me , instead, they were all cheering, for me! I felt my face turn beetroot red-never in a million years, would I have guessed that that the crowd was cheering for me!

Michael had an complacent grin on his face.

He was backstage, waiting for his turn to step onto the stage and live his dream of performing for his schoolmates. He had been chosen to perform a song for the annual Children's Day performance taking place that day. "You don't need to worry about me, I'm sure I'll be the best one here!" he arrogantly said to his friends. "Up next, Michael Tan, performing a song! " "Good luck!" Michael's friends chorused as he stepped onto the stage. "I don't need your luck," Michael coldly responded. The moment he stepped onto stage, however, that look faded off of his face and a sweet smile got plastered onto it instead. Michael opened his mouth, but nothing came out of it. His face turned beetroot red. His breathing became choppy and he just managed to stutter, "I-I..." Beads of sweat rolled down his forehead as tears started to well up in his eyes. His eyes looked back and forth between the audience until he spotted Max, the notorious school bully in the crowd, whispering to his friend. "He's probably making fun of me. I can't believe this is happening! What am I going to tell my friends?" Michael muttered to himself. Tears streamed down his face as he tried his best to hide his face from the crowd. Despite his efforts, the crowd just started to laugh. Michael just wished that the ground would swallow him whole. His face turned even redder until he looked like a tomato. Tears the size of peas rolled down his cheeks as he ran off of the stage, avoiding everyone's sight at all cost.

I sauntered confidently to the stage and smiled at my parents, beaming with pride. As I was walking I barely noticed the yellow,"caution wet floor," sign beside a puddle of water. Little did I know that this will ruin my special day.

The applause stopped as I tapped the microphone to get the audience attention. I began my speech, fluent and flawless. The words were edged in my mind as if I were reading from a script. "So far, so good!" I said to myself. Right after I thought that, things took a turn for the worst...

Suddenly my mind went blank as if it had shutdown like a computer with its own mind! I froze on the spot trying to switch my mind back on. My eyes grew as wide as saucers. My stomach twisted into a million knots. I broke into cold sweat as I tried to remember or at least add on to what I said before. There was a long awkward silence. I lowered my head in shame as I heard mutters and giggles. Suddenly the school bullies started yelling,"This loser should not be head prefect! In fact, I think she shouldn't be a prefect in the first place if she cannot remember her own speech!" At this everyone started shouting and booing, except for her parents and her group of good friends. In sheer panic, I ran back stage, only my nightmare did not want to end. As I was running I slipped on the puddle of water. I was thrown into the air, almost doing a backflip and smashing head first, into the yellow,"caution wet floor," sign! The impact was less pain than humiliating. Everyone burst out laughter. Even the yellow,"caution wet floor," sign seemed to be making fun of her! Her face gushed radish red.

During recess, Lily was excitedly heading to the playground, carrying her lunchbox with a sandwich and an apple. She was chatting with her friends about the new game they were going to play, completely focused on the fun ahead.

As she approached the swings, she noticed a large puddle in her path. Even though there was a sign there but,she was determined not to get her shoes wet, Lily tried to leap over it. But just as she was about to land on the other side, her foot slipped on the wet grass, and she tumbled into the puddle with a big splash!

Her friends gasped and then burst into giggles. Lily, now sitting in the puddle with muddy water splashing around, tried to stand up, but as she did, an unexpected sound slipped out—she broke wind. The whole playground erupted with laughter.

Lily’s face turned red, but she couldn’t help but join in the laughter. With a smile, she stood up, drenched but cheerful. Her friends helped her clean up, and they all agreed it was the funniest thing that had happened all week.

Ethan did not see the 'caution wet floor' sign. Hence he slipped on the puddle right in front of him, he desperately tried to catch his balance, however he failed, and fell face flat on the ground; with a 'thud'. Ethan screamed in pain, ' Ouch, that hurts!' As Ethan looked up, he suddenly felt that all the other students were staring at him and some even began to laugh and giggle. Ethan's face immediately turned as red as a tomato. Having never experienced such a embarrassing moment before, Ethan did not know where to put his face and he wished the ground would open up and swallow him. Ethan tried to avoid eye contact and his head hung low. He finally, got up very slowly from the floor; not quite knowing which way to turn after that embarrassing moment. Clasping his hands tightly, Ethan hurriedly scurried off.

“…….” The host’s enthusiastic announcement triggered a rapturous applause from the audience. Beady eyes scanned the stage in anticipation as the entire hall was immersed in the melodious tunes of the soundtrack. The huge smile on my face concealed the gut-wrenching anxiety within. Mustering all the courage I could, I raised the microphone to my lips and began to sing. I sang my heart out throughout the first half of the song, but once I got to the chorus, things started falling apart. I had forgotten the lyrics to the song!

The soundtrack continued to play awkwardly in the background as a sea of whispers from the audience carried to my ears. A lump formed in my throat as my obviously embarrassed face grew redder by the second. Desperation coursed through my veins, as I struggled to recall the lyrics. If I wanted to win anything in the competition, I urgently needed a miracle.

As my name was called, I took a deep breath and confidently walked towards the stage, my cue cards tightly gripped in my hand. The moment I stepped under the spotlight, everything else seemed to blur, and the only sound I could hear was the thumping of my own heartbeat. I was so focused on getting through the presentation that I didn’t notice the janitor had just finished mopping the stage.

Then, it happened.

My foot hit the slick puddle of water, and I instantly lost my balance. It wasn’t just a small stumble—it was a full, arms-flailing, legs-in-the-air kind of fall. My body flew forward, and with a loud "thud," I crashed down onto the wet stage. The cue cards slipped out of my hands, scattering across the floor, as I landed flat on my back, my uniform soaked from head to toe.

Time seemed to freeze. For a brief second, there was complete silence, and I thought maybe, just maybe, no one had noticed. But then the sound of giggles broke the stillness, growing louder and louder until the entire hall erupted in laughter. Hundreds of students, all laughing at me. I could feel my face burning hotter than ever before.

I tried to get up, but my soaked clothes made every movement awkward and slow. My shoes squeaked embarrassingly loud with each step, and every time I tried to stand, I slipped again. At that point, I wasn’t just embarrassed—I was mortified. The teachers were trying to shush the laughter, but even they were struggling to keep a straight face.

As I finally managed to get back on my feet, I saw a few students pointing and whispering, unable to contain their amusement. Some of them even mimicked my dramatic fall, and the laughter started all over again. I wanted to disappear, to melt into the puddle that had caused all this humiliation. But there was no escaping the spotlight—literally and figuratively.

I was helped off the stage by a teacher, but even as I sat down, dripping wet, the embarrassment refused to fade. My classmates kept sneaking glances at me, chuckling under their breaths, and every time they mentioned the words "slip" or "fall," I cringed. My big moment in the spotlight had turned into a nightmare, and I was certain I’d never live it down.

I opened my mouth to warn her, but the horrific sight was already unfolding before my eyes.

Without realising, Lydia accidentally stepped on the puddle and slipped, nearly doing a full somersault.

Standing backstage behind the red velvet curtains of the school hall, Tyler knew he would ace his performance. It was his turn next and he had been practicing for this singing contest for the past 6 weeks. Tyler knew that now was the chance to shine.

He was not going to screw up. "Now, for our next contestant, let's invite Tyler of class 5A to sing the song 'Circle Of Life' by Elton John." the teacher announced.

Tyler heard his name being called and walked up on stage, his head up high. A big round of applause erupted from the students and teachers. As soon as the music started playing, Tyler sang, his melodious voice echoed through the school hall. All the students were in awe, their mouths agape.

Suddenly, when Tyler was singing the second verse, an unexpected thing happened. The background music continued playing while Tyler stood on stage, not knowing what to say next. He had forgotten the lyrics to the song!

Tyler's feet were glued to the stage and his mind went blank. Beads of cold sweat dripped down his forehead while his hands stayed frozen. What should I do now? He kept asking himself that same question again and again. Suddenly, a ripple of laughter ran through the crowd, and slowly the whole school started laughing at Tyler's performance.

Tyler's heart sank as the laughter echoed around him. The cheerful applause that greeted him at the start seemed like a distant memory. His mind raced, trying to grasp the lyrics that had vanished from his memory. He stood frozen, trying to hold back his tears, however, they did not listen.

Tyler raced down the steps and ran to the nearest toilet where he let all his emotions, thoughts, and most of all, tears, out. He did not feel like going out if the toilet. What if friend sees me? he thought to himself.

Finally, it was the day of the show, and Emma instantly found herself getting the chills. When backstage, she found her hands quivering uncontrollably. From outside she could hear the upsurge of the spectators; in unison, their voices formed a clamor, a drone. The lights went out and her classmates proceeded further into the room. Emma’s scene was coming up, and her heart raced in her throat louder and louder. Last but not the least, it was her turn to get involved in the drama. She felt the heat of the stage light on her face and got paralyzed at first. There was a noticeable pause and her breath was trapped in her chest as if time was now moving forward in slow motion. The light shone straight into her face, the heat intensified. At times, the screen turned blue and she could only see the audience but they seemed hazy and unclear, their actions slow. Every second seemed like an eternity as the silence engulfed them. The sound of her own heartbeat in her ears was like the pounding of a slow, massive drum’s reverberations. She held her costume tightly in her hands, and she could hardly move – her legs were shaking, and her heart raced like crazy. Her pretty forehead was glistening with beads of sweat and, in what seemed like the slowest of motions, a droplet of sweat was slowly making its way down her face, each move amplified by the strip lights. The voices in the crowd were like an ocean from another world – distant and guttural.

Emma realized her mouth was dry, and she tried to say a line, but her mind was empty, her fear preventing her from acting. But then, in the fog of time that was moving in slow motion, she saw her teacher lurking behind the curtain. Her teacher smiled softly, and having heard the words, ‘You can do this,’ as if they were pronounced loud and clear, Emma squeezed her eyes shut just in time to see her teacher nod, and the nod was slow motion, too, but the words broke through the veil of fear.

A loud roar of applause soon filled the class as I struted to the front of the class. It was a normal day in class, and my teacher had assigned us a group project to present to the class. My group and I had been preparing for weeks and finally, the day had arrived. As we stood in front of the class, I could feel my heart racing and my palms getting sweaty. I was nervous, but I was confident that we had prepared well for the presentation. As I started speaking, everything was going smoothly until I stumbled upon a word. I tried to continue, but I completely blanked out, and the words just would not come out of my mouth. My heart fell to the pit of my stomach and my cheeks burned as I met the accusing glares of my classmates. A cold wave of dread washed over me and tears stung my eyes.I felt my face turning red and I could feel the eyes of everyone in the room staring at me. It was clear that I had messed up and I felt incredibly embarrassed. " Why can't the world just swallow me up?" I thought as hot tears coursed down my cheeks.

In that moment, I felt like a hopeless bird that cannot fly. However, I knew that I had to find a way to deal with the situation. I took a deep breath and composed myself. I apologized to the class for my mistake and tried to continue with the presentation. My group members stepped in to help and together we were able to complete the presentation, albeit with a few hiccups. After the presentation, I felt humiliated and worried about what my classmates thought of me. However, as time passed, I realized that everyone makes mistakes and has embarrassing moments. It is a part of being human and it is okay to not be perfect all the time. The lesson I learnt from this embarrassing situation is that it is important to remain composed and to not let small mishaps define you. I also learnt the importance of being prepared and practicing before any public speaking engagement. I made a promise to myself to always be well-prepared and to not let my fear of embarrassment hold me back from speaking in front of others. In the end, that embarrassing situation helped me to grow and learn from my mistakes. It also taught me to have empathy for others who find themselves in similar situations. It is a memory that still makes me cringe, but looking back, I am grateful for the lessons it taught me.

At a grand school party, the canteen was decorated with colourful streamers and balloons. There were a large array of food such as cookies, cupcakes and a giant bowl of lemonade. Kane, one of the organizers of the party felt very proud that it is turning out well.

As Kane chatted with his friends, he noticed a little puddle of lemonade and made a mental note to clean it up later but he got distracted by the fun.

Suddenly, Kane stepped on the puddle. Before he could react, his foot slid and before he knew it, he was slipping and flailing his arms. He went crashing into the large chocolate fountain and the lemonade. All the food went flying everywhere in the canteen! The canteen was filled with gasps and then bursts of laughter as Kane landed with a loud splash on the floor, his suit covered in chocolate and crumbs of food.

His face turned bright red as he sat there, like a laughing stock. His friends gathered around and helped him get back to his two feet. One of them asked trying not to laugh, “ Kane, are you alright?”

Kane looked around at the mess he created and his dirty clothes, he gave a sheepish smile and exclaimed , “ Guess I made a splash at the party!”

Everyone laughed , and the party went on with jokes about Kane’s great fall. His lemonade- covered fall became the funniest story of the day and even though Kane was embarrassed, he was glad that he ended up having a great time with his friends at the party.
