Before I was even born my parents made an important decision of immigrating from San Nicholas, Michoacán to Fresno, California. In doing so they left behind their home, friends, and family in search of better opportunities even if it meant starting from zero. That decision led to a better future for me with better education, safety, and a future.

Even though I wasn't born yet in 2006 my parents decided to get married they made this decision in hopes of building a life together and laid the foundation to the family I eventually became apart of. This marriage joined two families that had faced many struggles during their immigration and it highlights the love, commitment and partnership my parents have.

This church was where my parents got married and it represents the beginning of everything! In this place, they promised to build a life together, a life that would later include me. It has become a great part of our lives now attending church every weekend!

Covid

One of the biggest moments that affected my life was COVID during 2020 life literally changed overnight. School went online and everyone was scared and confused. Staying at home became stressful and lonely I was disconnected from my friends and it made me realize how I took normal life too far but it still taught me how to be patient, how to be myself, and how strong my family really is. This year showed us how fast the world is changing but how we can overcome anything!

This picture shows how we had to adapt to COVID. The main way we did this was with the addition of face masks as a part of our everyday life. For me its a reminder of how the world really isn't that safe anymore and seeing masks everywhere showed us how scared we were but how ready we were to beat COVID.

Toilet Paper Shortages

One pretty memorable part of COVID was the sudden shortage of basic items specifically toilet paper. I can remember going to the store with my family and seeing empty shelves. People were scared and that fear showed up in the way they hoarded things. This moment taught me to appreciate even the smallest things we usually take for granted. It also made me more aware of how fear spreads and how important it is to stay calm and help other in a crisis.

School Life

Starting school in 2013 was exciting but also scary. I didn’t speak much English at the time, and I remember sitting in class, feeling nervous about not understanding what the teacher or other kids were saying. But little by little, I learned. I listened closely, practiced every day, and slowly began to feel more confident.

That year, I was named Student of the Month and it felt like more than just a certificate. It meant I was starting to find my place. That moment made me feel proud and showed me that hard work and not giving up would take me far. It’s still one of the earliest moments I remember feeling truly seen for who I was becoming.

While i cant find anything specific about the elementary i went to most of my life it was great knowing i was apart of such a great school that does so much for its students, staff, and community.
