This scene is emblematic of the narrative because it is the climax of the film. The snake is a phallic image and the slaying of it is symbolic of escaping the oppression of the Count. Triumphant musical score is climatic and creates a psychological and physiological response from he audience as we feel the same relief that the characters feel. When the audience is shown Hideko's past and the things that her Uncle made her do, we feel the same way that Soo Kee does when she finds out. That allows us to align with Soo Kee.
Appolonian/Dianysian

During this scene the two characters Allie and Noah are important, as they are the only characters in this scene. They show this through close ups of each of their faces and expressions. Throughout the scene Allie and Noah have conversations about their past relationship and their past selves. While talking they are on a canoe to go see swans which have migrated onto Noah's property.
Colors
Bright and soft lighting is used in the portion of the scene where they first arrive to the lake filled with swans. The warm lighting evokes a calm and enchanting mood.
Sound
The majority of the sound is onscreen. This is seen in the present swans, the swishing of the water, and the dialogue between the characters. The music is off screen sound and is very mellow and calming to match the scenery. However, the music intensifies as the storm worsens.
Relevance of the scene to the film
In this scene, the conversation at the lake amongst the swans is very important. Noah mentions the swans are only visiting and will return to where they come from soon. After saying this, Noah looks at Allie and the audience can infer that he is also referring to Allie's visit. Although he does not want to believe it, she too is only visiting and will have to return to her fiance.
The film techniques in this scene evoke emotion in the audience. The events shown go from order (Noah being single, and Allie engaged) to chaos (disruption of the canoe ride by the rain) to order again (the two characters falling in love).

A swan is also highly symbolic. Often swans are associated with divine inspiration, as well as beauty and creativity. According to legend, swans also mate for life. The committed love that Noah has had for Allie as well as Allie's lack of sexual intimacy with another man indicate that they have both, in a sense, mated for life with one another.

In this section of the film, Alex is forced to face the victims of his crimes, and becomes a victim himself - of a totalitarian government trying to exercise too much control over its citizens. Kubrick uses his cinematic toolkit to make sure the viewer sympathizes with Alex's plight. When Alex stares longingly into the water, weeping, after being kicked out of his house, we stare with him. When the tramp and his cronies attack Alex, we feel the weight of their bodies. And when Mr. Alexander slips Alex a sedative in his wine and Alex blacks out - so do we - only to wake up with Alex, who is locked in a room in Alexander's house, being forced to listen to Beethoven's 9th at top volume. Hollis Alpert wrote in his 1971 Review of the film for The Saturday Review: "what is done to Alex by the state is a good deal more horrific than what Alex does to others.
