I plan on attending SDSU in the fall with biology as my major. I hope that during my first year in college, I'll be able to find what specific career I would like to pursue in the medical field. I want to try becoming more social since I'm not very outgoing in the face of new places or new people. I hope that I'll be able to get along with most of the people I'm around with and I hope that I will be able to mature as a person as well as a student. If possible, I would like to transfer to either UCI or UCSD after studying 2 years at SDSU because there is no major for pre med at SDSU. I would like to graduate with a bachelor's degree within 4 years and I plan on getting a job during the time that I am in college so that my parents won't have to worry about giving me spending money. In order to reach this goal, I must be able to manage my time during school and I must be able to find my own motivation for pursuing this career in order to not give up halfway through. I need to make my own decisions and stop being so indecisive in the face of challenging situations. Attending college and being successful in my studies is very important to me because neither of my parents finished college. My dad dropped out in high school and my mom went to college for a year or so before she got married. Also, college is a part of my life where I'll be on my own and have the freedom to make my own choices.

Route to becoming a Physician's Assistant

After getting my bachelor's degree in biology, I plan to apply to a PA program. But in order to do that, I have to make sure that I've completed all the prerequisites and volunteered or worked in a hospital or clinic for a certain number of hours. If possible, I would like to start out by volunteering in a hospital and applying for a job later on. If I get admitted, then I would continue my studies, which would be specifically orientated for preparing you to work as a physician assistant, for about 2-3 more years. Then I would have to pass the PANCE licensing exam. I hope that in the future, I will be able to work as a physician's assistant in a hospital or clinic somewhere in California.

I plan on traveling to someplace I've never been before, hopefully before I get married. As a kid, I've always wanted to travel outside of the country since during the winter, spring, or summer breaks, my friends would always come back, telling me how they traveled to Europe, the Caribbean, or Thailand. I guess you could say that I was a bit envious of them. My family doesn't really travel during the school breaks, aside from flying to Vietnam every other summer to visit my mom's side of the family. The reason was because traveling outside of the U.S. often costs a lot of money. You gotta purchase plane tickets, plan out which tour you want to go on (if you don't want know your itinerary since it's a country you haven't traveled to before), account for food costs, etc. In the future, I really hope to travel to Japan one day. It would be amazing if I could travel with my friends Ashlea, Jasmine, and Taylor. But getting to travel by myself would be incredible as well since I feel like my parents have been a little bit too protective of me being on my own. If possible, it would make me the happiest if I could travel with both of my parents as well. I would love to learn more about the culture and people there. Also, before traveling, I would like to learn how to speak and understand basic Japanese so that I may not feel completely lost at the language barrier. I hope to try new food, ride the bullet trains there (since I've never been on a train), see the cherry blossoms in bloom, go sightseeing (take lots of pictures), wear kimono, buy merchandise related to all my obsessions, etc.

I want to be able to do the things that I have never done before or the things which I am afraid of trying. Like before, I would like to travel to a foreign country and experience the culture there. I want to go on a hot air balloon ride and I want to learn how to ice skate. I would like to ride a horse someday and learn how to swim properly (I have a fear of having my head submerged under water for too long). Go see one of the big, annual tennis events which are part of the Grand Slam Tournaments. I would like to attend at least one of the four Grand Slam Tournaments: the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon, or the US Open. I hope that I'll be able to become fluent in Vietnamese since I can't really read it very well and I have not practiced writing in Vietnamese at all. I'm not sure how I'll be able to make this happen but I really want to take my dad to go see a live soccer game when his favorite teams (Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, etc) are playing. I would like to also walk across the famous glass bridge in China along with participating in hanami (cherry blossom festival where people gather under the cherry blossom trees to admire its beauty, eat food, and spend time with friends or family). These goals might seem quite impossible as of right now but I will have to have a change in attitude in order to start working my way towards those goals.

A Happy and Healthy Relationship -> Marriage

Don't know when or where I'll find a solid relationship since throughout my 18 years of being alive, I've never been in one. But maybe college will change that. I'm hoping that I'll be able to meet a person who accepts me for who I am and is on the same wavelength as me. I hope that I'll be able to have a good relationship where the both of us are honest with one another, take care of each other, work as a team, are loyal, support each other, etc. If possible, I think around the age of 25 or 26 would be a good age to get married. I wouldn't want to get married too early because there's a lot of things I wanna do before I get tied down. The thing I am most worried about is my happiness when I'm in a relationship and when I'm married. I hope that I'm not just satisfied with my relationship but also happy because seeing the way my parents act around each other made me realize that if it wasn't for me, they might not have stayed together till this day. I hope that my partner is understanding and can put up with my sometimes careless decisions. Hopefully I'm not asking for too much but in this relationship, I want to feel loved and cherished. Of course, I also want to cherish my partner as much as they love me because that's how a good, healthy relationship is supposed to work right? I know that nothing is supposed to turn out that perfect in this world, but I truly hope that I'll be adding to happiness once I find a partner who loves me for me.

Buying a nice house

I'm not exactly sure where I would like my future house to be located. Definitely not right next to the beach because I have a fear of tsunamis and nowhere on a mountain because California is bound to have earthquakes. As of right now, I have no intention of leaving California so I would like to purchase a nice house in California. But, if housing becomes way too expensive, then it may be time to move and find some better housing costs outside of California. As a young girl, I've always dreamed of having a big house with lots of rooms and space, especially a spacious backyard so that my future pets will have enough space to run around. But not too big like a mansion or anything because I feel like it would get lonely if there was too much space and not enough things or people to fill it.

This is something that my mom has always said to me and she still reminds me of it till this day. Now I understand that in certain circumstances, this is actually impossible. Like if you were to tell me that I could become a millionaire in the near future, I would laugh. The point of this quote is your mindset and determination. As a kid, I often marveled at how smart my cousins were, how athletic some of my friends are, or just in general, how talented people can be. But she always told me that you have to have the right attitude or else you won't be able to get to where you want in life. Since one of my older cousins used to live with us, I always was amazed at how many AP classes she took in a year when I was in middle school. I felt a bit intimidated to be honest because my mindset back then was that I wasn't smart enough to take 3 AP classes like she did in a year. But going into sophomore year, I thought that these classes were supposed to challenge you and if she can do it, I'm sure I'll be able to find a way to pass those classes. It's important to have the right attitude and some self confidence because fear can hold you back from reaching your potential.

This is something that Hanyu Yuzuru once said when he was discussing the hardships that come with training and competition in figure skating. Hanyu is a 2 time olympic gold medalist in men's figure skating (2014 and 2018). He says that sometimes, no matter how hard you try, that amount of effort that you put in doesn't result in success in the end. He then states that because of failure, it pushes you to explore other ways to achieve your goals so that you're not just continuously failing as a result of not opening your mind to other solutions. So yes, all the practice and time you put into something may not lead you to success like you expected, but that failure will help you achieve success in other ways.

Becoming financially stable

Yes, we've gone over the concept that having money doesn't always equal happiness. But for the time in your life where you're just starting to get everything in order, being financially stable would ease some of my worries. I'm in no way asking to be a millionaire or anything like that, but I would like to live comfortably with my future family without having to worry about money issues. This is important to me because in my family, there were times where there was a lot of tension between my parents because one of their jobs wasn't offering as much work as it used to so they weren't making as much as before. Once again, having a lot of money doesn't exactly mean that you'll be happy but with a sufficient amount of money, you could use it to buy certain things which can make you happy. In order for this to happen, I'll have to find a stable job in the future, especially one that will pay enough so that I can first take care of myself.

This may seem a bit surprising but I have not gone to a concert before. I've always heard that tickets can be quite expensive and I think that's one of the factors that have been holding me back from attending a concert. I wouldn't my parents to pay for my concert tickets since they probably wouldn't be there to enjoy the concert as well so I plan on buying tickets to a concert of one of my favorite artists once I'm making my own money. Hopefully this will happen sometime in the near future, maybe when I'm in college. I plan on getting a job during college so that I may have some extra pocket money for myself instead of freeloading off my parents who are already paying tuition. There are so many different artists or musicians that I admire and I would like to attend one of their concerts one day. I'm into kpop at the music and it would be incredible if I could see either MONSTA X or NCT perform in concert one day. Other artists that I'm also interested in seeing are Imagine Dragons, Lorde, or Melanie Martinez. One famous pianist that I would love to see in concert is Yiruma.

The protagonist, no matter what situation she was caught in, always said that line and smiled in the face of adversity. I would like to have that kind of mindset throughout my life, as in having a positive attitude and not giving up when I encounter obstacles that stand in my way. There is research that smiling more actually does add to your happiness. I don't know if it will increase your luck, but I think that when you are happy and in a good mood, you'll notice some of the things that you didn't notice before so you might see that as being lucky.

I haven't been diagnosed with any mental illnesses or anything so I hope that I'll still be the happy and optimistic Thien that my friends all know in the future. Your mental health has a big impact on how you interact with the people around you and your environment. I hope that in the future, I can maybe have a bit more confidence in myself so that I can be more outgoing. Every now and then I sort of doubt myself and wonder if the path I chose is the right one. I hope that in the future, especially in college, I'll be able to figure out what path I'm supposed to take.
