The area I'm most comforatable in is using data to drive instructional decisions. Having been an instructional coach, data was at the forefront of the conversations I would have with the teachers. It focused my discussions on a specific area of concern so that we could begin addressing the way in which to move forward and help the student succeed. Looking at data allows me as a teacher to reflect on my effectiveness and practices and improve upon them in meaningful ways.
I would like to dive deeper into the student reflection and ownership area. I know the impact I can have on my own practice when I reflect on what I've done, so to empower students to utilize that tool can have significant gains on their performance and accountability.
Bonus question: I like the new term of "flexible" content rather than the original term of "digital" content. This emphasizes the fact that the materials used vary and are not just limited to digital technologies and programs. Teachers will gain a deeper understanding that there needs to be an ebb and flow between a variety of materials and technologies: "mixing three different types of instructional materials: those that are foundational, adaptive, and highly customizable."

The area that comes most naturally to me is Targeted instruction. That is the foundation to any teaching or teaching method. Flexible content is the area I need to explore more. Gathering multiple relevant resources is always the challenge for in a blended learning environment. BONUS: I think the change in the wording was a good choice. originally it implied that the content needs to digitally based but flexible content suggests multiple media types.

This means that you are able to be flexible with what content the students are using and it could be different for different students.

What's compelling about personalized/blended learning is the idea of empowering students to be in control of their learning by providing them with the tools, information, and skills they will need to be successful lifelong learners.
The question it leads me to then is HOW to teach today's students to have the motivation and desire to push themselves. It seems like this would increase both of those areas naturally, but I find, more often than not right now, that the kids want to do the least amount of work as possible. They seem to want fast, simple answers GIVEN to them without exerting any effort on their part. I attribute this "laziness" in part to the technologies they have at their disposal. They can "ask Siri" or "ok Google" their way to finding a vast amount of information, but to require them to dig deeper is becoming more and more difficult. I can see this implemented

The most compelling part of PL is that it allows me to reach all of my student groups (low, middle and accelerated ) in ways that are meaningful to them. We all learn in different ways. To encourage and support engagement in the classroom it is important to allow students to engage in ways that are meaningful to them personally.
My main concern is in establishing a set routine and actually implementing all of these ideas into a seamless, daily routine.

What I find to be compelling about PL/BL is that students take control of their educational progress. Giving students the ability to see they can be successful and master concepts which they deem too difficult for themselves is giving them the confidence they need to continue to push through the ups and downs not only in their educational journey, but also in the journey called life.

The questions I still may have is to learn how to find the time to plan and collaborate with other teachers when we share students. As it would be best if we share what we see as strengths and struggles for the students.

I also like that the direct instruction is still a major component in the process, that the teacher is not just a facilitator, but an active member of the learning process.
What I cannot see myself doing yet is the flex learning model.

Targeted Instruction is the area that comes most naturally to me because in band we have goals every rehearsal and we set the goals of what parts of our music we wish to learn. Giving those goals lets the ensemble have areas we want to have a sole purpose to focus on. Exploring more as to what ways would Data-Driven Decisions be made for a Band room. Band is very closely related to more extra-curricular activities that are hands on based engagement. It is in many ways compared to a sports activity and what ways to would a coach create Data Driven decisions for his team. I think the Core 4 categories are good in more specific common core areas of learning in comparison to an art related subject.

I will inevitably have students who will struggle playing music and with the class giving positive feedback to those students will help give the struggling student the confidence they need to improve. Also with band students have seating arrangements for very classical reasons.

I mainly have Foundational content and Highly Customizable content because in my 5th and 6th grade band I teach music fundamentals in a different customized curriculum. I try to spend 30% of our learning from the traditional band books and music and 70% using outside non traditional methods of teaching music. This makes learning band more flexible, more engaging, and more enjoyable for students including those who are really need to take their time as slow learners. I'm missing Flexible content and that is because there is a very large lack of resources in music with flexible contents of learning. If there are flexible contents of learning available in Music the procedures to allowing those contents require a mass amount of approval through the district administration.
