The topic I chose to do my assignment on is the most recent mass shooting that took place in the U.S. at a bar in thousand oaks California. A gunman took the lives of 12 victims as well as took his own life. The Gunman was 28 years old and was a marine combat veteran. From the evidence shown he did this to prove a point to people as to why these shootings keep happening.

This article I found on Google talking about the details of what happened in the thousand oaks shooting. A white male went into the bar in thousand oaks California with the intentions of completing a mass shooting. This night was "college night" the local bar. This event was supposed to be a night where students that are not of age. The shooter knew that this would mean a night like this would result in more people being at the bar , which meant more victims and would create more attention to this event. Once the gunman entered the bar he did not hesitate to begin shooting. The victims said everything happened so fast but their first instinct was to get out. The people inside the bar tried to get out as fast as they can they left through the back door, hid in the attic, broke windows etc. they did anything they could to get out of there alive.

This article is about the man who did the mass shooting. The man who did this was 28 year old white male named David Long he was also a marine combat veteran. During the shooting he tweeting something so heart wrenching. David said " I hope people call me insane. wouldn't that be a big ball or irony? Yeah I am insane, but the only thing you people offer after these shootings are your 'hopes & Prayers'. David proceed to follow that tweet by saying " Every time you wonder why these keep happening." This was his last tweet before killing all of those innocent people as well as taking his own life.

The first time I saw these tweets I could not believe it. Why did he do this? to prove a point? Instead of adding more hatred to this world he could've helped to make a change in this world. Something that makes my stomach sick is that he was a U.S marine someone who would've had access to guns with or without the law. In cases like this it is very hard to have hope in the system.

#307 U.S Mass Shooting In Only 311 Days.

This article on USA today is going in to detail about the fact that this mass shooting was #307 in 311 days in the U.S. This article also talks about each mass shooting and how this means there has almost been 1 mass shooting a day in 2017.

This information made me feel sick to my stomach. I do not understand how nothing has been done to prevent violence like this. People for years have said its not the guns that are the problem, its the people who have them. People like this are one of the many reasons why it is hard to enforce laws regarding guns. I do agree that taking guns away completely is not going to solve anything but I also think it should be harder to access guns. I think that the process of having possession of a fire arm should be a lot more of an extensive process. I know that this would not necessarily end the problem but it would definitely lower the chances of this happening. I look at the numbers of the people dead in Canada due to gun violence compared to the U.S and it is outrageous how big of a difference there is between them, Something needs to change.

This Article is talking about Telemachus Orfanos who was 27, died alongside 11 others when this mass shooting occurred. Something that makes him stand out was the fact that Telemachus escaped death last year when a gunman killed 58 people in Las Vegas.

Not only has there been hundreds of mass shooting in the U.S but this man was unfortunately present for two of them. I can't imagine what his family is feeling. Imagine getting the call after the Vegas shooting that your son was a victim of that tragic event and he survived, what a relief that must have been. Not even a year later imagine getting a call that your son was present for yet ANOTHER mass shooting but this time he didn't make it. Such an unfair end to a young mans life, I feel heavily for his family and friends.

March For Our Lives

This Facebook page is called March for our lives. March For Our Lives is a movement dedicated to student-led activism around ending gun violence and the epidemic of mass shootings in our schools today. In March of 2018 students and young children organized to march in DC in order to raise awareness on gun violence. Many different celebrities showed their support for this march from stars such as Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato etc.

In my opinion this is such an amazing movement. The only thing that is sad about this is the fact that the younger generation is making a bigger impact then the president of the united states. These young kids have less than a 1/4 of the power that Donald trump has, imagine if he used his power for good? Mass shootings are not new instances, they have been happening for many years and nothing has been done to make a change. Something has to be done, with the future generation I do believe in change.

This article I found on google is about all of the 12 victims that were killed from this tragic event. The victims range from age 18-48 but a majority of the victims were in their early twenties. These people were in school just starting off their lives and sadly that has been taken away from them. This article goes into detail about each victim and their lives.

In my opinion this article was very well written. This article not only listed the victims but to also wrote about who they were as people which was very nice. It helps strangers reading this to feel sympathetic towards the victims. It is one thing to hear people have died and it is another for people to really understand how devastating that is.

This article is talking about how not even 24 hrs after this horrific shooting a wildfire started and began to spread across parts of California. Thousands of people were forced to evacuate including some of the victims that survived the shooting. Not only did already they feel unsafe after the mass shooting but they were not even able to go back to their homes to relax and feel protected. Thousands of people have lost their homes to these horrific fires as well as some people have lost family member's, pets and irreplaceable memories such as notes, pictures, material items.

I could not imagine the pain these families have gone through. Physically and emotionally loosing so much, Imagine having to start your life all over again? Luckily now the fires are under control and people are able to go back to their homes. Some people were lucky and their homes survived the fires but others were not as lucky and had nothing to go back to. Many people have come together as a community to help donate clothes, food, water and places to stay. It makes me happy when people come together to help each other.

This Video is celebrity talk show host named James Corden talking about how he feels regarding the shooting. I got this video from YouTube, it has close to 100,000 views. Not only does James voice his opinion about the tragic event but he also asks us to take a moment of silence for the victims

I really appreciate James for using the platform he has to talk about serious issues such as this one. In the video you can tell that James is being very genuine and sympathetic towards this matter. Not only does James explain how this makes him feel heartbroken but he also mentions enough is enough and these acts of violence could be and should be prevented.

When I found out about the shooting I was extremely shocked by this act of heartless violence. Soon after I saw this video I also found out my cousin who is attending university in California was going to go to this bar that night. Luckily her friend was too sick to go out and my cousin ended up staying in with her. I am grateful she is safe but my heart goes out to the families that have lost loved ones.

This foundation was made after one of the victims of the shooting passed away. Her name is Alaina Housley, she was a college student and was the niece of Tamera Mowry-Housley who is one of the famous twins from the show Sister Sister and is now a co-host on the Emmy winning talk show " The Real". Tamera and Alaina's families took it upon themselves to create this foundation to focus on raising awareness on gun violence and how to make a change. This foundation also raises money to help families that have lost people to gun violence.

Personally I love this idea and think it is a great start. I think even though gun violence has been a serious problem for a very long time this is one way to start the ripple effect of finding a solution for this major issue. I think in our society today celebrities are more listened to then the leaders of our country. In my opinion this because people are more likely to see what celebrities are doing on social media as well as on television rather than watching the news and being more invested in the real world.

This picture is something I found on Twitter when I searched the hashtag thousands oaks shooting. This picture represents statistics on how many people were killed from guns in the last year throughout the different countries in the world. It is very clear what the result shows. The number of people in U.S killed by gun violence is significantly higher than any other country. This is picture is definitely a conversation starter.

To me this picture speaks volumes. I think everyone was aware that the gun violence was higher in the U.S but this picture really puts in perspective how large the difference is. It is amazing that a picture that takes less than 2 seconds to look at makes you think long and hard about what can be done to help prevent this.
