Back then in the civil war times blacks were treated different cause of the color of there skin. White then thought that they were superior to the blacks."White citizens don't experience the same "justice" as blacks on a daily basis. The actions of many authority figures and citizens demonstrate the underlying tone that "if you're white, you're right!"

Abraham Lincoln thought that the African Americans had now place in the war but that changed after the emancipation proclamation. The black thought that it was there turn to be allowed to fight so that's when Governor Jon A. Andrew put together the black group of men.
Why people were against the 54th regiment

I think that people were against it because it was a group or army of all black men. In that time people thought that the white were more powerful then black. Some evidence I have is that only black people were used as slaves for the wealthy white people. They white also shut down all black business and just any building that was ran by a black family or a black man.

The Tuskegee airmen were a group of Black men who flew bombers in World war ll. They faced many of the problems that the men of the 54th Massachusetts regiment. Most black men did not fight in the war because the white thought they were not qualified for the duties of fighting. "The Tuskegee Airmen overcame segregation and prejudice to become one of the most highly respected fighter groups of World War II".-Tuskegee Airman history. I think they were respected because the white people started to realize that they were turning into better pilots then they were being. So I think thats why they started to give them respect.
