I like how people are starting to add an A for Accessibility to EDI, to make it IDEA. I think every ED interaction should have one question that asks "how will this activity/assessment/idea impact your learners/participants from an EDI perspective?"

I tried one of the IAT tests (Implicit Association Test /Project Implicit 2011) mentioned in Angela Campbell's paper (p.52). The results were surprisingly poor considering I frequently deliver our organization's Ethical Upstander I&D training. All feedback is information I can use.

I am not certain EDI looks like a specific thing or set of things. I don't know but I wonder if it might be better considered as a process and a perspective (or, even set of perspectives and processes). Right now, to me, it involves a significant measure of self education -- at least for me -- and an effort to be supportive of equity seeking individuals or groups but in a way that they find useful and appropriate. There is more but I don't want to take up too much space.

This week's video (you'll notice that Ryerson University recently changed its name to Toronto Metropolitan University out of respect for reconciliation) led me down a rabbit hole that ended with this video. In it, Paloma Medina suggests using the "find and replace" tool on our vocabulary to replace "diversity" (we care) with equity" (we will).

in the intercultural communication field, it is noted that cognitive shifting is much less work than behavioural shifting, so I am wondering how are folks supporting themselves and others in making situations equitable, filled with diversity and including all?
The dream: EDI becoming part of an institution's DNA (paraphrasing Dr. Denise O'Neil Green's comments in the YouTube video)

In my work, it looks like (in part) challenging white language supremacy in writing instruction, taking an anticolonial approach to teaching and learning, and distinguishing access needs from accommodation processes.

We still have a lot of work to do, from my perspective, in terms of accessibility - a. access needs vs accommodations b. broader conceptions of accessibility (e.g., engagement, connections, neurodivergence), and c. UDL *without* assuming it is a checklist as opposed to a series of starting questions/approaches.

"As discussed below, while none of the foregoing is meant to signal the futility of EDI edu-cation, it warns against ascribing a singular importance to it. All institutions seeking improved EDI outcomes –including universities – are well-advised to embed that training into larger efforts that focus on cultural and systemic reform."

One way that I promote EDI is by suggesting OER materials. Many OERs are designed with universal learning design and often are published in different formats. My team wrote an OER and in doing so we were reflective in writing case studies which included many different types of students with different accessibility concerns. More work like this is being done all the time.
