He would go to extreme lengths just to get their fortunes. In another book in The Series Of Unfortunate events he wanted the fortune so bad he tried forcing Violet to marry him even though she was underage. He did not treat the orphans with kindness at all. He is the person who put the Baudelaires in their first home. Sadly their first home was with Count Olaf.
