<title>I think anti-racism is definitely something that can and should be taught. It can be taught in many ways/ forms and it depends on the way it is taught in order for someone to develop their own outlook on the topic of anti-racism. It can be taught by educators, peers, and family members. Tools can be used to teach anti-racism such as books, newspapers, articles, and much more.</title>

<title>I would say views depend more on where you are in the world (i.e. If you were born in a place were everyone is required to be the same after thousands of years, you might be taught that people different than you are evil or trying to manipulate you — making you come off as more racist. On the other hand, if you were born in a place that is trying to fix its society by being more inclusive or had a history of being more accepting of those that are different, you might be taught that diversity is a wonderful thing or that people, no matter what color their skin is, are just you and I — making you come off as more inclusive). However, it should also be noted what things you teach as racist or not. If you&#39;re not careful, your students might end up in a difficult situation when they get older — either them saying something wrong when they didn&#39;t realize it, or them overreacting to something that shouldn&#39;t be a big deal.</title>

<title>Yes, because I believe racism is something that is taught. It is something that is passed down from generation to generation and it won’t end until it is taught on why it is wrong and how strongly it is negatively impacting people of color today. </title>

<title>I believe that anti racism is something that can be addressed and taught when presented correctly. In order to be able to teach anti racism, the presenter must actually be dedicated and informed about the topic, similar to when a history teacher teaches their class about US History- they have knowledge and certification to be able to teach on the subject. </title>

<title>No, but we can foster an environment from a young age where that wouldn’t need to be taught. The reason I say no is because you can’t change a persons perspective on an extreme political/ social issue with just a simple conversation, many times racism is embedded into a persons culture but you can educate people on effects of these things also not being racist is a morality thing</title>

<title>Yes, absolutely. I think most people wouldn’t consider themselves racist. However, some people do say things that are considered microaggressions or biases. For example, closely analyzing a minority when coming into a store, or touching a black woman’s hair, calling it exotic. It’s usually subconscious, but I think if we educate people on why saying or doing certain things is bad, they’ll be more aware and conscious about their own biases.</title>

<title>I believe that the more obvious actions of anti-racism can be taught to students. Like about not to say racial slurs and to not exclude people through lessons and interaction activities. However, the more nuanced things that come along with being anti-racist has to be shown through the educators in order to students to fully understand that content. </title>

Mostly your close relatives or parents may teach you bad things about some racial group and you may also see them in that way.So if you can teach racism, you could be also teach anti racism. <title>Yes. Though for kids at a young age, racism might be something they don&#39;t understand until they learn about it/see it happen. But teaching them at a young age that everyone is the same, and not just simply defined by their pigment, culture, or race can help raise their awareness that this is something they should be careful to talk about.</title>

<title>Personally, I don’t. I find that we have taken many anti-racism lessons for a few years in MCPS. <title>Yes, just as racism is taught. Although most mental processes have already been set and have a place in someone’s mind. There is always a way to curve one’s ways of thinking. Detaching those bad associations of someone’s race and adding a new association that is free of judgement. By placing a complexity of several examples and situations that the person can understand why racism is a bad thing and if they partake in it why it may have an offended a certain person. Now if the term “anti racism” meant more of “this is how not to be racist” to people who may have never really have put things like race into thought we could reinforce the idea that we as people are humans that shouldn’t be divided by certain features and skin color. To add on to the first sentence since teachings of beliefs rapidly occurs in childhood it’s best to target future parents and adults and exposing them to anti racist material.</title>

<title>I think that they are making assumptions about my home life that are not correct. Many people have not only at-home responsibilities but extracurriculars, extra schooling on weekends, and some even take care of family members. What happens in peoples’ lives is very versatile and vary’s from person to person, but I’m very sure that teachers often don’t put these responsibilities into account when they set homework or assignments for their students. Many teachers base their assignment/ homework load off of their personal ideals for their students, but really, most if not all their students do not reflect these ideals. I’ve heard many comments from teachers not only assuming peoples’ home lives, but also their academic lives (this includes assuming the workload given by a students’ other teacher is minimal/ nonexistent, or that their responsibilities at home are minimal). Oftentimes, these assumptions can even be based off of how a student acts in class.</title>

<title>I think that even when teachers are trying their best to make schoolwork easier for students, they still misjudge our willing to do a certain amount of work. An example of this is when a teacher says a piece of homework is due today, assuming &quot;EVERYONE can do it since it&#39;s so EASY&quot;, even when a few students can&#39;t make up for that with the work from their other classes or still can&#39;t understand what to do.</title>

Recently, I have had a teacher who openly discussed her ideas on how assignments should be based around and acknowledge students home life in which she said she would accommodate to, which was very appreciate throughout my class. But, majority of teachers do not take a students life outside of school into thought when assigning homework. More and more students are starting to get jobs, internships, maybe have personal responsibilities outside of school, and many other factors that make it so much harder to even get time or space to sit down and complete assignments for 7 different classes. This should definitely be changed and thought more deeply about, as many teachers refuse to grade work over the weekend because it is their days off, but assign students multiple papers to complete over our days off. </title>

<title>I believe that some teachers are making assignments and homework with the ideal student in mind. The student who is always motivated, always on top of their work, always behaving in the way they are supposed to, and having no other responsibilities. Teachers as a whole do not recognize that being a student is not the only thing going on in my life. And yes they have more power in a school setting but, a student is not an entire person. Students are also daughters/sons, aunts/uncles, employees, and etc.</title>

In class, or at lunch. I don&#39;t think they are creating assignments out of assumptions. They&#39;re also understanding when we have a situation when informed. <title>These following issues don’t apply to me, but the experiences of some of my friends: Some teachers make assumptions. For example, assuming everyone has free time, but students could have job, babysitting, etc. Also, some teachers don’t come to class prepared, causing them to fall behind, and students having to do remaining classwork for homework. It’s not even that it’s occasional, but a reacquiring problem.</title>

<title>It feels as though they assignment based on a student who’s always on top of their work and doesn’t do any non school activities to support their lifestyle. These people are primarily white. I’ve unfortunately heard stories of minority kids having to take the role of guardian in their homes and have had to basically not come to school entirely. There’s also the case of mental illness being more likely in minority homes. Which hinders our want for academic achievement. Apologies if this isn’t accurate.</title>

<title>White students are over represented in AP classes, as they are the majority in most of my classes. I think that minorities are definitely underrepresented in AP classes which should definitely not be the case, as many students of color achieve just as much accomplishment and work as hard as their peers. I also strongly feel that students that do not speak english are severely underrepresented in AP/Honors classes. I understand that there are major obstacles with having non english speakers in such hard classes, but I am certain they can do as good and even better than their peers. I know many students who are actively learning english who strive to have a bright future as a student who wants to take difficult classes, but feels like they cannot because of the language barrier. ALL students should be ACCEPTED and WELCOMED into AP/Honors classes as advertised. Non english speakers want a challenge and chance to excel in AP/Honors classes too.</title>

<title>&quot;I feel as though that I do not now much about this. That although I recognize the primarily white students in my classes. I’ve allowed my self to stay oblivious and only focus on doing work. Sometimes when I do look around and see majority white people in my classes it makes me feel that I have to work to an exceeding level so they don’t make up presumptions of me or even lowering my standards to try and fit in not in ways of erasure but more of putting aside my cultural background. Being seen as a “aesthetic” for example:“You speak spanish?”“Where are you from?”“Wow that means your spicy” the connotation of “spicy” is very back and forth and as a Latino it’s like “is this what I am?” We should never let anyone define who we are in the first place but as humans we absorb opinions of others. I don’t know if my statements really answered the question but I feel as though it was sufficient input &quot;</title>

<title>My teachers have provided opportunities such as breaks and extra time to make learning more fair and equal for students. Not everyone learns the same way. Some people need breaks, some can spend hours learning without taking a break. I really appreciate that this has been provided in one of my classes before because it gave me time to process what I’ve learned. Extra time helps as well. When teachers have asked whether or not students need more time and actually respect when people say yes even if there are just a few people who need some more time to finish a certain assignment or part of an assignment (if the class is working together). Some people may not be as quick as others and I’m glad thats been accepted and acknowledged by some of my teachers. </title>

<title>One strategy that seems effective is discussing real world issues once in a while before a lesson. This could help students of all background engage in conversations that could help them understand the world more and how everyone perceives the same events. Besides that, another strategy that seems to work is Extending Time. This will ensure those who are late for their due date will be able to make up for it WHENEVER it&#39;s necessary.</title>

<title>Teachers can have a monthly survey form for students to fill-out (best if optional) and include questions like is there anything like a busy schedule or a personal thing that affects your educational life. Questions asking about their mental well-being can also be added. For something specific, teachers can ask a student of color how they feel on what people of their color had been thorough, and their culture experiences when it&#39;s brought up in their lessons.</title>

<title>A study hall period should be an option when choosing a students’ schedule where students can have more time to work on homework, missing assignments, and just all assignments/ practices/ assessments in general. I believe this can provide more time for those who may not have as much to work on everything they have to do at school, and it can even encourage people to take harder classes if they are able to have more time to make for these classes during the study halls. A longer, 10 minute interval in between classes would also allow for learning to be more fair/ equitable for students because if students need extra help on anything from their teachers, they would be able to take a few minutes to discuss it with their teacher after class before heading to their class and won’t be in such a rush. I find that I often have to rush immensely to get to my next class in general, especially considering the size of the school, too.</title>

<title>I 100% believe that teachers and administration needs to communicate with students more about opportunities, ways to get help in school, programs students can join to teach how to fill out important paper work while applying for colleges and universities. I know some teachers may think information like this goes in a students ear and comes out another, but that one student who is in need of help hearing that they can meet with a group or a person to get help is always listening and is grateful for the constant announcements. </title>

<title>Teachers can ask improve on their teaching. Teachers now days are giving us class work and homework that we don’t understand. When we go in to ask for help, most teachers tel us that it was uploaded on canvas on what to do. Some students view the task on canvas and still get confused. When students go in to ask for help, some teachers answer the question by asking another question or not properly answering our questions. They also get angry when we don’t understand the subject which makes us discouraged to even learn. I also feel like teachers need to to a better job at listening to their students, and know what their students want.</title>

<title>I think we need to encourage more students of color to join these AP classes. We should let them know that they’re all smart and not act shocked when they succeed.</title>
