Artifact
The Artifact showcased is a propaganda saying, "Death to U.S. imperialists, our sworn enemy!" The creator made this for the North Korean government as a way to spread and promote that the U.S is the enemy and the oppressor.

Realtion to 1984
The poster illustrates what Orwell has been warning us about in 1984, that governments can create propaganda and media to influence societies to believe in certain things. In this case, it is North Korea having such posters to cause their citizens to believe that the U.S is their sworn enemy and is a society that they should be against. It is comparable to 1984, since in the book there are all these posters and propaganda about how the people should hate Emmanuel Goldstein and all he stands for, because he doesn't follow Big Brother's society and beliefs, and is not one of them.

Importance & Implications
We should care about this since it is something that can occur in any society, by the government. The government can start posting and displaying propaganda that can influence the thought and minds of citizens to believe in things, which would contest the governments duty preserve the freedom of thought and speech.

Media on Sharing Information and News

Artifact

The artifact showcased is a tweet made by a News corporation comparing a picture of the Patriots turnout in 2015 vs 2017, with the two different Presidents (Obama & Trump). Even though they weren't displaying or sharing the full story behind both pictures, and why they aren't similar.

Relation to 1984
The tweet illustrates how biased News corporations can be towards certain topics and how they can mislead citizens. In this case, one picture is making it seem as if when Obama was president, he was favored more since more people were in the picture. Meanwhile, with Trump as president, it makes it seem as if he is disliked more, and the less people in the picture would showcases the dislike of him. This relates to 1984 since in the book, the government controls what the people think and the citizens are just to trust the government with all the things they say whether it is accurate or not.

Importance and Implications
This occurs today with News corporations quite frequently. Most people assume that the information given is accurate and don't question it. We tend to just accept things for being fact, when in reality, sometimes, they aren't, or we don't see the bigger picture or both sides of things. We need to be careful when hearing and trusting News corporations telling us news since sometimes, it can be misleading and resort in people thinking one way towards a topic, when in reality, they don't know the whole story. Just like in 1984, the people can be easily mislead and told false information all due to the control of some form of higher organization.

Media and Fake News

Artifact
This is a link to a video of CNN faking/staging a fake protest.

Relation to 1984
The fake news in the media today relates to 1984 in that, in the book, the Ministry of Truth makes up everything and anything they want to about history, and anything going on. The things they share and create, are all fake, and not true, yet the citizens are to believe it, and they do. Like the news today, people tend to believe all news is true, even though the thought of what the news corporations say can be fake, we tend to believe it's true. We are just almost just as ignorant and blind as the people in 1984, believing everything they are told to them.

Importance and Implications
It is important, since this exact stuff occurs in our world today. People just trust news corporations for everything they say, and there is a lack of questioning. Since there is a lack of questions, it is easy for these corporations to mislead or persuade our thoughts. Without questioning these corporation for the legitimacy of the information released, we would be no better than the people of 1984, who listen to everything and take it all for truth. As easy as it is to just believe in these supposed trusted organizations who's job is to provide information, it is very dangerous, since the only way to know if they're telling the truth, is to actually research it and find out.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muME4lb7YhM

News Websites Being Biased

Artifact
The artifact is a link to a news a article that is completely biased. The news website isn't very credible, since it rarely displays news that is unbiased, and not against some race or group of people. Their thoughts and beliefs are thoroughly expressed in many of their news articles making it unreliable.

Relation to 1984
The news website can relate to 1984 in the sense that the government and Ministry of Truth in the book give out information that isn't true, and is very unreliable. Like this news website, they can impose their thought and beliefs upon the people, and influence their way of thinking.

Importance and Implications
It is important since news websites like this are things people should try to avoid since they provide wrong and biased information. Some people do manage to believe what these websites say, and it's a way of mind control through the media. It influences people to believe the same beliefs as the people who run the websites. News is suppose to be unbiased, and supply accurate information to the people, so they can form their own opinion and thoughts, instead of having other's thoughts instilled upon them.

http://www.breitbart.com/london/2016/03/22/polling-muslims-in-the-west-increasingly-sympathise-with-extremism-terror/

Belief that being in the U.S military = Hero

Artifact
The artifact is a quote from a hockey player on team USA taken by an interviewer. The quote is, "The American heroes are wearing camo. That's not me."

Relation to 1984
It relates to 1984 in that the citizens in the book believe in things that aren't true. For example, they believe that what society/big brother tells them to do is the "right" way. The quote itself is something that represents the thoughts of what many Americans believe, even though it isn't true. The media, big corporations, and big companies put this mindset out there that "The U.S military = Hero", even though that is entirely false. Just because you join the military, or are in the military, it doesn't make you a hero. The same argument can also be made about every soldier being honorable, it is entirely false. People aren't automatically honorable or a hero by joining, it's all about performing the acts that will make you honorable and heroic. However, joining the military is a courageous act, but it's the same sort of courage that can be applied to ISIS and other terrorists for being part of that organization; they're courageous for joining and fighting a fight that others wouldn't. It's this mindset that these higher organizations have instilled upon us to encourage us to join the military, believing that we would be automatically honorable and heroes.

Importance and Implications
It is important since, it is a topic that we should be aware of that is going on. We are being instilled with information and beliefs that are false, and in a way, a form of propaganda. Not everyone in the military is a Hero, or honorable, but yes, there are some people who have done heroic and honorable feats, who we can call heroes. It's this form of mind control that people have to be aware of, and recognize that not all things said are true, even though they may seem like they are.
