The video is about Richard Ruiz's language orientations which includes 3 parts. The first is language problems which is described as how people approach language and the attitudes/ baggage that they bring into language. The second orientation is right orientation which is described as people's spoken language is part of their human rights. The third part is resource orientation and that language can be a resource in the world economy and society.

My field experience has been going well and I think the orientation that I see the most is resource. Every student is trying to learn English in the class but the stories they read and how the teacher incorporates them into the class, promotes a classroom that allows for student's primary language to be used. Another example would be the student's are given opportunities to use their language as a source of inspiration in their writing when they write their personal narratives. This orientation helps students realize their language can help them in life and bring something unique to the world.

The connection is that Ruiz's Dream involved 3 orientations working together to produce a world that treated different languages as a right and a resource rather than a problem.

The orientation that I align with the most is right orientation. I think that language is a right that humans have and no one should put a limit on languages being learned and acquired. A challenge to this orientation is that depending on the country you live in, some languages are more important than others to know.
