March 22nd 1765 - Creation of the Stamp Act

The stamp act was reenacted by Great Britain to tax legal documents, newspapers, and playing cards.

June 1767 - Townshend Act

The British also created a new tax on paint, paper, tea, etc.

March 1770 - Boston Massacre

The Boston Massacre is when the colonists protested against these taxes/acts. But, it eventually led a few people (5) getting killed by British troops. The event is also called ‘King Street.’

April 19th, 1775 - War Breaks Out

The shot heard around the world. It happened in Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts. It led to the creation of the Continental Army for the colonies to start fighting back against the British.

June 17th, 1775 - Battle of Bunker Hill

This was one of the first major battles of the war, and the British were attempting to take the colonists ground and the Colonists were able to hold it for 2 hours. They eventually had to leave and let the British take their spot. But, they were able to also kill 1,000 British troops just from that attack.

July 1776 - America Declares Its Independence

The colonists create a document and send it over to Britain. It is adopted by the Second Continental Congress. King George III isn’t willing to let his subjects go without a fight, so they don’t accept it at first.

December 26 1776 - Battle at Trenton

The Colonists surprise a force of German troops fighting for Britain. They did win this fight, but it was kind of ‘cheating’ since they surprised them during their christmas pause during the war.

October 1777 - Battle of Saratoga

The British attempt to separate the colonies from the southern ones, but it ends up failing. So, over 6,000 British troops at Saratoga are forced to surrender, giving the colonists a massive victory.

February 1778 - France Enters the War Against Britain

Because of the Victory at Saratoga, France allies with the colonists and they provide financial and military aid to the colonists.

1779 to 1781 - The Southern Campaigns

The southern campaigns were a set of battles that happened in the southern colonies, so that Britain could starting gaining some land. But, it backfired heavily and the patriots/colonists won by a landslide in both of the main battles (Charleston and Kings Mountain).

September to October 1781 - Yorktown

Both the French and The Patriots/Colonists trap a large British army in Yorktown. They then force the British army to surrender leading to the war coming soon to an end.

September 3rd, 1783 - Treaty of Paris Officially Ends The War

The Treaty of Paris ratifies the independence of the 13 colonies. Canada will still be a British province, and that they would stay separate for now.
