I think both these tools are an excellent form of assessment. I would use this form of assessment to assess an SESE topic such as "Rivers of Ireland". This is a fun and exciting way of assessing what the children know instead of the old way of just using a written test or oral questioning.

We record our standardised test scores on Aladdin. This is a very easy way of checking on a students progress over the years. Students also have access to an i-pad twice a week, they are numbered so the children always use the same one. This allows the teacher to monitor how the student is doing on certain topics and projects.I have never heard of the assessment sites that were mentioned in module 1 but I will certainly be using them and informing my colleagues about them!

I tend to be very "traditional" when assessing the pupils in my classroom. I usually assess pupils at the end of each term and at the end of a topic. I use interactive whiteboard activities at the start and end of each lesson to informally assess. I am not very skilled in the ICT department so I have always felt that using it for assessment or creating e-portfolios would be way out of my skill set. However, after completing the 1st module and setting up my own Padlet account I feel that I would have no problems in doing this. Using tools like this and others such as Kahoot are excellent ways of bringing ICT into the classroom and setting up a link between home and school. This is so important because usually the only real link between home and school are parent/teacher meetings and end of year reports, setting up e-portfolios creates an informal link which is vitally important for creating a positive learning environment. I would like to use Kahoot for creating SESE quizes and I would also be interested in setting up a Qool account to set up for class discussions when we are doing a novel.

Portfolios in the traditional sense are paper and contain work from the child over a period of time. Eportfolios are much the same but they can me much more collaborative and interacive with the option of alot more parental envolvement.

There are endless benefits to ePortfoilios. The students will discover a valuable exercise in self assessment, something that is comming more and more into Irish education. It helps them to develop their own educational goals. Asa teacher ePortfolios would be an excellent tool that can be passed on from teacher to teacher each year. This would help the transition for both teacher and student. It also allows for both student and teacher to clearly see the strengths and weaknesses and instantly therefore allowing a problem to be worked on or finetuned.

Eportfolios can be hugely beneficial for students with special educational needs. Collaboration with parents is vital with SEN students and using ePortfolios is an excellent way of sharing progress and getting the parents involved in the child's learning. Students with SEN can be mainly audio or visual learners, ePortfolios provides the opportunity for both theses types of learners, ePortfolios provides the opportunity for both theses types of learning. For example a written test can be no problem for most kids but for the SEN child this can be very difficult. Providing the test through the medium such as Kahoot is an excellent way to overcome this. As mentioned before ePortfolios are a collaborative approch to learning and this is excellent for the Resource teacher. The child's work from both classroom and resource can be shared on the one forum thus providing the opportuntiy for both parents and teachers to work together and plan accordingly.

There are a lot of advantages to using ePortfolios as storage or workspace. I usually use pen drives to store my work but they tend to break and I have often lost work because of this. Also my computer has crashed a couple of times and I have lost lots of saved work. Using ePortfolios elimates these problems and is easy to access from any device anywhere. Also it is very beneficial for sharing work with students and vise versa in a safe and private environment. Creating a folder for each child with different subject subfolders is an excellent way to store and review your class work without having to keep paper files that take up lots of room.

It allows the teacher to monitor a students work more carefully and also provides the oportunity for one on one feedback which is vital for a child's learning and it is difficult to provide this in a normal class setting all the time. Both teacher and student can see the progression over time and the teacher can clearly see how the student has applied the knowledge that they have learned.

There are many ways to use all of these tools in your classroom. I really like Edmodo because it has a social media feel to it and I think that this would appeal to students. I would like to use it for Gaeilge. Students are not used to communicating like this through Gaeilge and I think that this would really improve the confidence of my students in both written and grammar aspects of Gaeilge. I would use google drive as a form of assessment for saving my students work in various folders. I usually keep samples of each child's work over the year in individual paper folders but I will definitely be using Google Drive for this next year.

Staff planning is key to successful implementation of ePortfolios. I think that planning time could be set asside for setting them up. Regular meetings to record progress or any problems that anyone is encountering should be set up. Students should also go through trainning and parents should also be informned of the implementation. I think that a whole school approach should be taken when setting up ePortfolios, with regular planning and monitoring I think it could be successful in my classroom.
