To prepare the parents or caregivers and the students for what will be talked about during the conference it is a great idea to have the students do a self evaluation of there work and behavior of the period. This method lowers student anxiety about what will be talked about during the conference. Prior to the conference organize all information you will present to the parent in a neat simple fashion. After having the parents sit down it is good to ask how their day was? or other questions not directly related to the conference but can incite a positive interaction. After getting familiar with one another begin with any questions they have and if they seen the student self evaluation.
