Smartphones are a very helpful part of the modern world, but they can often cause issues. Smartphones tend to break people apart and almost eliminate the need for human contact. Although people think that technology is helping us connect, it is in fact doing the opposite.

In the article 'Is the smartphone driving us apart?', my claim is supported by some of the things the author says. The author says, "One likely contributor to declining empathy is the rising prominence of personal technology and media use in everyday life." This is explaining how kids in our generation have less empathy because of the strong use of technology in everyday life.

In the article 'How Phones Are Tearing Us Apart', The author states "Besides the blatant narcissism and negative self-comparison that goes hand-in-hand with selfies and news feeds, research suggests that smartphones may also decrease our trust in one another, lower the quality of our relationships, and degrade the quality of our conversations." This quote is explaining how technology can do multiple negative things to your social skills without even noticing. If you get so used to talking to people on your phone, its going to be difficult to have a conversation in-person because you are not used to it.

Everyone in the photo is so distracted by their phones that they are not getting any human conversation.

An example of smartphones tearing people apart can be the following. Someone invites you to come hang out and watch a movie or go to eat. The entire time, they are on their phone while driving, during the movie, and even mid-conversation. This example shows how people are so addicted to their phones that they wont even put it down to drive safely. Texting and driving is extremely dangerous, that the smartphone distraction is now causing death and serious injury.

In Fahrenheit 451, It quotes, "We get these cases 9 or 10 a night." This shows how many people in that society have been brainwashed by the technology overload that takes place in that society. People are constantly attempting to take their lives because of how terrible the society is.

Do you notice how people hurt each other nowadays?" This quote shows that society wasnt always as bad as it is in the book. Once the new technology began to come out, people started acting different ad getting more violent.
