Raging waters filled with mythical beasts and creatures, an island with carnivorous sheep and a man-eating giant, Greek mythology, ironclad battleship with confederate skeletons, what do they all have in common? They’re in the Rick Riordan’s Sea of Monsters. The Sea of Monsters, a book about Greek gods, heroes, and villains, is filled with action, facts, and comedy. In the book, a young demi-god named Percy and his friends, Annabeth and Tyson, are to rescue Grover, a satyr, and the Golden Fleece, a magical item which will save the camp all demigods go to. The 3 receive opposition from Luke, Percy’s former ally and friend who’s sided with Kronos, and various other Greek monsters/beasts. Included in with all those things is a question. Should Percy Jackson join Luke’s side with Kronos? As evidenced in the story, Kronos isn’t a good deity. He will manipulate others for his own personal goal. He has bad intentions. Percy siding with Kronos will have an impact not only on his allies and friends, but possibly the prophecy. Those reasons, and others are evident enough to tell us that Percy shouldn't side with Kronos.

While it is true that Percy joining Luke’s side could be beneficial plot wise, we still need to consider what would happen if Percy were to join Luke's side. In fact, if this were to happen, there would be no point in the plot of the story, as no one would be able to stop Kronos. According to the text, “The next child of the Big Three who reaches sixteen will be a dangerous weapon.’ … ‘He or she will make a decision that either saves the Age of the Gods, or destroys it.’ ” This is important to consider as if Percy, a likely contender for the prophecy, were to join Luke, there would be no one left to stop Kronos. Furthermore, Thalia wouldn’t have shown up as Percy had joined Luke before retrieving the Golden Fleece. To clarify, if Percy were to join Luke's side, the plot would become completely and utterly pointless.

Some thing to help support the reason that Percy should not join Luke's side with Kronos is if Percy were to join sides with them there would be no one to stop them. This will then lead to the prophecy being ruined . In the book there is a prophecy that states Percy will defeat Kronos. If Percy were to side with them the world would be destroyed. Then all of the people on earth would die, and plot wise the story would not be as exciting if Percy just sided with them and killed everything. It would be more exciting if Percy would fight in an epic battle and kill Kronos.

Another key point to take note of is that Percy siding with Kronos will have an impact on him and everything related to ancient Greek mythology. If Percy were to do this, what happened with the relationship between him and Luke would happen again to everyone he knows. Everyone who’s with a positive relationship with Percy will feel betrayed, like how Percy felt when Luke sided with Kronos. From the book, we are told, “The next child of the Big Three who reaches sixteen will be a dangerous weapon.’ … ‘He or she will make a decision that either saves the Age of the Gods, or destroys it.“. If Percy were to change sides, he’d have a great impact in the Olympus’ fall. Percy, being one of the Big Three’s kids, would have powers akin to his father, Poseidon. Kronos could weaponize Percy to fulfill his goal, bring forth a new Golden Age with Kronos in rule.

In the book, Percy has two choices. Either to join Luke to revive Kronos or not join Luke and save Olympus. Percy shouldn't join Luke because Luke wants to revive Kronos, according to legend, Kronos ate his children and he was defeated by his three children. He needs the golden fleece to resurrect him so he can have revenge. According to the book, Percy has Poseidon's sword that defeated Kronos. If Percy joined Luke's side, the sword would mean nothing to Percy and the world would be destroyed. If Percy joined Luke it would be a massive betrayal to Camp Halfblood because Percy saved them several times before, it wouldn't make sense for someone to be so loyal to another and suddenly betray them.
