New challenges require initiative. The pile represents challenges in life. Motivation begins with a desire to meet a need. Building relationships require people skills as well as other soft skills. The school setting is predominantly a social setting. Avoid being a pointer by taking initiative.

I think the first thing to clean up is our outlook/attitude on how the year will go, attitudes will set the tone for not only the year but also our students.

I enjoyed the book an related it to it as I am not always a scooper, but I would like to be and I am going to try my best. When we see something out of place whether it be a situation or something else we need to take action and not just point and talk about it. The saying "Be the change you wish to see in the world" when you start doing better and people around you see it they will imitate that.

First of all excellent job reading the story, I am certain your nephew enjoys those opportunities to have his Auntie read to him. As for the story: I take from this that as with the problem of our societal structure we have all too often become sheepish members of the proletariat who simply see something we take issue with and complain within our little circles and never take the initiative to do anything. But then there has to be the one who strays from the great norm and become something different, one who sees an issue and does what is necessary to address the issue and foster a change. Though this may be ridiculed and require that at times we must get our hands dirty to resolve the problems of the past and make a better tomorrow.

I think that this story was befitting for Warlick Academy. Perception is EVERYTHING. When you change your outlook you can see the best in the messiest situtions. We can not control the hand we are dealt at times but we can control the way we view things and the way we respond.

I think that this was a great thing to share to begin our new school year. It reminds us that we all need to remember that we are all important in the lives of the students here. Learned behavior is so common in todays world with children. When children only see pointers (poopers) their behavior tends to move toward the negative side because all they see if people pointing out the negative. When they see people working hard to be leaders (scoopers) and trying to help make a difference in their lives their behaviors will change positively. We have a great family here at Warlick and I believe we are all here for the same reason and that is to make a difference in our students lives. Lets have a great year and do lots of scooping this year!

Basically, as leaders, when we see something that needs to be done, we should take the initiative and do it not waiting on someone else to do it. In this way, others who may be observing us, even though we may not be aware that we are being observed, will follow suit. Be the example that you want to see in others. This is especially important as our students are constantly watching us.

Even if we have some pointers in out school, having a scooper to set and example will motive them. You can avoid being a pointer by seeing a problem, concern, or anything that needs attention and helping without being asked.

This remind me of the bystander effect, or bystander apathy, it's a social psychological theory that states that individuals are less likely to offer help to a victim when there are other people present; the greater the number of bystanders, the less likely it is that one of them will help. Same goes for taking charge or leading. People tend to wait for someone else to make the first move. Be the first to step up!
