What was I given?
I received the brief to compose 1-minute music & sound design for a chosen scene in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

What is the tempo, time signature and key of your film-score?

The tempo of my film-score is 122 BPM (Moderato) with a time signature of 4/4, in key B minor.

Is it a character's theme or music for a scene?

My re-score is music for the specific scene to match with the action/events in the clip. It is supposed to affect the audience.

Style/Genre: A mixed of synthesisers with orchestral instruments. I would say 'Futuristic Orchestral.'

How did you make it?
I made it from scratch using Logic Pro X, and I
used a range of orchestral instruments for the fighting scene such as violins, brass instruments in their lowest pitch blended in with a choir to build up tension and match with the actions in the scene. At the end where Fynn (stormtrooper) falls on the ground, I intensified the suspense by transitioning to pizzicato in the 'Cinema Strings', added a tremolo timpani drum and ended with a cymbal crash for the explosion. In contrast, at the beginning of the clip, the music is made using synthesisers and includes quite a few sound effects, some made in Logic Pro X others imported from YouTube.
The interesting part of the beginning is definitely the panning of sounds from left- right for the arrival and crashing of the ships.

Although, I'm not an experienced practitioner in this field of composing music in terms of knowing how to play by key or usually by ear. Using a range of musical elements, context and a development of my musical ear. Actually, this has helped me a lot in playing random notes and instruments which sounds good and fits with the action. For now, my procedure in creating music is to play what sounds good to the ear (appealing) and matches simultaneously instead of playing certain notes.

Why is it effective?
I believe that it is very effective in terms of the musical arrangement, it contains a range of sound effects, synths and orchestral instruments which fits perfectly the clip.
