Lindsay's mother leaves to go to Africa with her boyfriend so she is sent to live with her father and step brother in New York City.

2. Talon sees Lindsay on his rotation to catch fallers, he has a crush on her and followers her around secretly. Todd throws Lindsay's book out the window which hits Talon on the head.

3. On New Year's Eve, Talon tries to give the book back to Lindsay by breaking into her house. Lindsay ties him up and Talon talks about the who he is and why he is in her house.

4. Talon brings Lindsay to the downside and shows her around. Railborn finds them so Talon brings her back to the topside. They come out of a manhole at a bottom of a pool that is "owned" by a homeless person called "The Champ". Lindsay asked The Champ about why people live under ground. The Champ tells her it has to do something with a guy named Alfred Beach. Lindsay arrives home around 2 am and her dad is really upset.

5. Railborn tells a wise advisor that Talon brought someone from the topside down and it's not his rotation to do that. So the wise advisor asks Railborn what to do and he wants Talon to be removed from the downside. So the wise advisor decided to have Talon killed. 

6. The downside "executes" Talon by putting him in a pipe. The pipe enters into the ocean. Since the downsiders don't know how to swim, they drown in the ocean. But, some woman saves Talon from the water. Lindsay's father has been taking his anger out on his workers, and one of his trucks end up going through the road and hitting one of the downside's pipes, which makes the downsiders mad.

7. Lindsay finds out the truth and the reason why people live in the underground. She tells Talon and he is mad about it. He goes to the place only the Most-Beloved can get into and finds the founder of the downside's tomb.

8. Meanwhile, the downsiders are mad that the topsiders "broke" into their home, so the wise advisors ask Railborn what to do. The downside ends up cutting off all of the topside's utilities. 

9. Lindsay's father is blamed for the outages and he is forced to resign. A boom is heard around the city. The boom was a tactic to get the topsiders from going to the downside. 

10. Talon becomes the Most-Beloved and leaves the information he got from Lindsay at the tomb. Topsiders are now able to go to the downside. She ends up becoming friends with Talon. She likes to think things out and likes to read.

Talon - Talon is one of the more popular kids in the downside. He was always interested in the topside and he became friends with one, Lindsay. He usually does things with an impulse. 

Mark - Mark is Lindsay's father. Mark focuses a lot of his time on his work, so his kids usually run around a lot. At the end of the book he feels bad for being an uninvolved father.

Railborn - Railborn was one of Talon's downside friends. He got mad at Talon, because Talon doesn't follow the rules and never gets caught. Conflict was not resolved.

Topside vs Downside, society vs society, the downside has a hatred for the topside. The topside doesn't really know about the downside. The conflict is resolved when topsiders are allowed to go down. 

Talon vs Railborn, person vs person, Railborn doesn't like that Talon can do anything and not get caught. Talon doesn't like Railborn being nosey around him. When Lindsay first went down she was scared because she didn't know where she was going, but ended up finding things that she found beautiful. The second example is when Talon first gets to the topside. The books talks about two completely different worlds coming together. Both of the different worlds think they are the right one, and the other is completely weird.
