USB stands for Universal Serial Bus and is a standard cable connection interface for personal computers as well as consumer electronics devices. USB ports allow USB devices to be connected to each other while using USB cords to transfer digital data. Additionally, USB ports can supply electric power to charge electronic devices. Several USB versions have been released, but the one that has been used the longest is called USB 2.0. Mobile devices are small computing devices that have an operating system and can run mobile apps. Mobile devices have defined by the device's size, weight, and mobility specifically how easily the device is mobile, like its wearability or portability. Some examples of mobile devices are tablets, smart phones, GPSs, digital cameras, calculators, smart watches, media players, handheld game consoles, and the list goes on. Laura Pianin- A computer processor carries out the instructions of a computer program. processors do this by performing functions like arithmetic and logic operations. The main manufacturers are Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Intel. AMD makes models such as Sempron, Athlon, and Phenom. Intel makes models such as Celeron M, Pentium, and Core (seen in picture). Each of these models serves a different purpose; some are made for desktops while some are made for mobile devices. The processors of different manufacturers can be compared by measuring gighertz. If you want to upgrade your processor it is important to check your motherboard specs because the processor you chose must have the same socket size as the slot on your motherboard. Additionally, you may need to instal a fan to manage the heat because faster processor produce more heat than slower ones.

Cache (pronounced "cash") is an area of memory that stores the contents of frequently used data or instructions in your computer's RAM. There are two types of cache: memory cache and disk cache. The one we will focus on for this chapter, memory cache, can be broken down into two different levels, Level 1 (L1) and Level 2 (L2). L1 usually is very small and built on the processor chip while L2 is slightly slower but has a much larger capacity.

The function of flash memory is to store something on a device that is usually small and easily transportable rather than the hard drive on your computer. Flash memory can be found in digital cameras, home gaming devices and many others. For smartphones, there are a variety of apps that you can utilize to find your phone if you lost it. These include Prey and Lookout for both iOS and Android, and Avast Anti-Theft for Android phones. Wearable devices allow their users to connect to the internet and perform a wide range of tasks, usually from a display screen on a watch-like device. It is a computer and phone on the go that allows for mobile computing and downloading apps for ease of access. Well known wearable devices include Fitbit, most known to count steps and track exercise and movement. In addition, there are Apple Watches. They offer apps that you can download directly from the Apple Store that will be compatible with your IPhone or iPad and your Apple Watch.
