A claim of policy because the author is stating that although appreciated, it shouldn't take a bunch of other struggling groups to take a stand in order for the black community to be acknowledged, that the struggle and facts alone should be enough to strive for a change.

this implies claim of value because it demonstrates both good and bad by placing "its great news" and "not a summer job" together which creates a connection to the message which is that the fight for equal rights is something that doesn't happen overnight it a issue that we have to solve over a period of time in order to full address the issue in order to get a solution that is acceptable to all victims that is it involves. this part of the text appeals to ethos where he stated "those of us who have been at this for a long time know that the fight for equal rights is a lifelong commitment" this helps to demonstrates the author expertise on the topic or issue he uses pronouns such as those of us which help to connect to those which help to connect to those who are in the fight and how they have experience this kind of event before so they know what the outcome will look like if they don't take time to solve the issue.

It's a claim of value because he is comparing constitutional statements that are supposed to be protected (insinuating that the constitutional promises had not been kept, & is actually causing disparity instead) to living & thriving, which is universal for anybody who is oppressed.

This quote shows Pathos because he expresses how the officers were passive and welcoming towards the protesters and thats completely different to how protesters would be treated nowadays.
