Learning and Innovation Skills

Learning and innovation skills focus on communication, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking - also known as the four C's.

Our 21st-century society is technology and media-driven. Individuals have access to an abundance of information at all times. This requires them to be able to access and evaluate that information while also analyzing credible media sources and applying skills toward technology in an effective way.

Life and Career Skills

In order to remain globally competitive when they enter the workforce, students need to develop their life and career skills. These skills include: learning how to adapt to change, being flexible, goals and time management, and working independently and also as part of a team.

ISTE 1.7 Students use digital tools to broaden their perspectives and enrich their learning by collaborating with others and working effectively in teams locally and globally.

Applicable for 6-12 PE

This will be the first day of a two-week soccer unit covering the following skills: dribbling, shooting, passing, and receiving. This skill can be implemented in PE by students using technology (tablets) within stations. Students will get into pre-determined teams and complete a pre-assessment skills test. Each student will have their own partner within their team, and these two students will complete the pre-assessment on each other. Students will rate their partner 1-4 on each specific soccer skill, using the tablet to record their responses in the Nearpod App. Each skill will have a list of criteria that specifies what to look for when rating their partner 1-4.

ISTE 1.1a Students articulate and set personal learning goals, develop strategies leveraging technology to achieve them and reflect on the learning process itself to improve learning outcomes.

In PE (9-12), students will create their own SMART fitness goals (3+ goals) using different types of presentation platforms such as Prezi, Canva, Google Slides, Powerpoint, etc... and present them in front of the class. These SMART goals need to be aligned with their own physical fitness journey related to their high school PE class.

ISTE 1.3a Students plan and employ effective research strategies to locate information and other resources for their intellectual or creative pursuits.

For 9-12 PE/Lifetime Wellness

Students will conduct research on how physical activity impacts cognitive development in K-12 students and develop a presentation for their classmates. By doing so, students will use technology as a tool to research, organize, evaluate and communicate information.
