She was telling him to stop picking on her when she didn't know the answer to the question. The vision gave her the confidence to speak up for herself and her peers, but no one stood up for her in class, and she ended up having to go to a parent meeting. After this unfortunate event, her parents give her a phone as a present because she has become "a more mature responsible lady" (helping with chores, getting good grades, having exceptional behavior) and it made her feel extremely guilty. She tries to avoid the parent meeting by disguising herself as her mother. The teacher ends up getting annoyed and frustrated when meeting the mom (Raven's disguise) and leaves early. Raven's actual parents come to the parent meeting and see's Raven dressed in the disguise. The parents apologize to Raven and say they do not expect her to be perfect.

Her visions, in a sense, are like social media. It negatively impacts her behavior in school. Furthermore, the textbook states, "adolescents who report a lot of media use are significantly more troubled (bored, unhappy, in trouble at home or school) than adolescents who used these media less often..." (pg. 225). She's lives a life dependent on her visions that she immediately loses focus in class as soon as she receives a new vision; like all characteristics of becoming disinterested, unhappy, and bored in school. She becomes too preoccupied waiting for the next best vision or trying to prevent certain situations from happening, in which it causes her to land in detention or have a parent meeting.
Raven's clothing is very fancy and loud; she wears embezzled clothing with glitter and sparkles and vivid colors. She encourages fashion experimentation and in one featured episode "Body Image", she talked about body confidence and weight discrimination in the fashion industry. She looks to be an average weight, and because of that, she was body shamed by Victoria Kane, a former supermodel, and an editor-in-chief of Teen Look magazine. Raven stands up to Ms. Kane that being a size 2 is an unrealistic standard for all body types. She argues, "Because in case you haven't noticed, people come in all shapes and sizes, and they are all beautiful." Raven knew she's fine the way she looks and she wasn't phased by it too much by the "ideal standard". Furthermore, the textbook discusses that "adolescents deliberately choose the media they use, either for entertainment, information, bonding with others, or developing a sense of identity" (pg. 226). , Before Raven was rudely criticised by Ms. Kane, Raven didn't know the ideal standard for a women's body is a size 2; and this proves that Raven doesn't feed herself into the types of social media that teaches you what is considered beautiful. ]]> 2018-03-23 18:24:19 UTC https://padlet.com/michelechan5/78lgbzav4n61/wish/245617402 michelechan5 https://padlet.com/michelechan5/78lgbzav4n61/wish/245641440 In this episode, Raven's disruptive and aggressive behavior towards Mr. Petracelli only occurred because she received positive feedback and acceptance from her peers. They all applauded for her and one student says, "Alright Raven, you really told that Celli off!" Her peers help boost her self-esteem and confidence and caused her to do things she normally wouldn't do because her vision showed it yielded a positive outcome. In the textbook, it mentions, "Aggressive adolescents who use their aggression strategically- what is referred to as instrumental aggression-are more popular than aggressive adolescents whose aggression is unplanned" (pg. 161). Raven comes off as rude and aggressive to some people, but she is also well acclaimed by many of her peers. Like when she used her master of disguise to help her friend, Eddie get back his locker from a bully. She aggressively assaults the bully with her purse and screams, "Alright, now you get your things out of there pronto! And if you tell any of this to Eddie, I got a bigger purse with buckles!" Her mother's disciplinary style represents an authoritarian parent, and it is, "[a parent] who use punitive, absolute, and forceful discipline, and who place a premium on obedience and conformity" (pg. 116). For instance, Raven's mother demands Cody (the younger son) to come downstairs immediately by saying "right now!" The mother's arms are folded and she looks very angry. She talks to Cody in a condescending voice and when the father speaks in his normal voice, the mother yells "angry voice!". The mother isn't empathetic and has low responsiveness to her son when she says, "don’t even think about crying or you will see a side of me that is not very pretty". These actions indicate that Raven's mother is overly aggressive and controlling. Furthermore, her mother's parenting style puts her at a great risk of depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem. As a result, Raven engages in delinquency; like talking back to the teacher, disguising herself as her mother, and assaulting a bully.

She is very eccentric and outspoken; she's an advocate for change. She has a typical family; a mother who's super strict, a father who's very lenient, a daughter who's going through high school problems, and a son who's money hungry. Her mother's strictness is the main culprit in causing her to have a delinquent behavior. In addition, Raven's peers also heavily influenced her by giving her positive reinforcement for poor behavior; like praising her for talking back to Mr. Petracelli, which caused her to have the parent meeting. Furthermore, she wears vivid colored and bejeweled clothes that represent her style and her strong personality. She doesn't seem to associate herself with magazines or any type of social media that obsesses over appearance (like being a size 2).
