Welcome to Channel Islands and the University Library—home to millions of books, an incalculable number of coffee mugs, and a staff that is equal parts brilliant, quirky, and highly skilled at finding obscure references from 1973.

We are thrilled to have you join us! I can confidently say (without exaggeration—okay, maybe a little) that your arrival has caused more excitement around here than a shipment of brand-new rolling book carts. And that’s saying something, because we really love our book carts.

As our fearless new dean, you now wield great power—like Gandalf, but with better Wi-Fi. With your leadership, we’re looking forward to new ideas, fresh perspectives, and possibly even finally figuring out where that mysterious draft in the archives is coming from (we suspect it’s either a ghost or a rogue vent).

Here at the library, we pride ourselves on being a hub of knowledge, curiosity, and mildly sarcastic signage. Whether it's helping students find their next favorite book, supporting faculty research, or answering the eternal question, “Do you have a stapler?” (we do), we’re passionate about what we do. And now, with you on board, we’re ready to take things to the next level—possibly even reorganizing the staff room fridge. (But no pressure.)

On a serious note (yes, we have those too), we’re truly excited about the experience and insight you bring to this role. Libraries are evolving spaces, and we’re confident your leadership will help us grow in new and meaningful ways. We’re all looking forward to collaborating with you and supporting your goals—whatever shape they take, whether digital transformation, community engagement, or simply making sure the printers behave.

I manage our Course Reserves and Streaming Media. We are all looking forward to your arrival and working with you as our new Dean. Please know, if you have any questions about the library, campus, surrounding communities, we are more than happy to answer any questions you have. While we do have students from LA, and other areas (including out-of-state and international students), our campus serves a unique and special role for students of Ventura County. As Kim Williams mentioned, we are a Hispanic-Serving Institution and serve many first-generation students. While many of our new students come equipped with the tools and resources to navigate our campus independently, for many students, college is an intimidating and overwhelming experience. As a smaller campus, we do our very best to give them one-on-one attention, curated to their specific needs and questions. Many CI alumni I know personally, always mention Broome Library as the most memorable and special place within their experiences as students. I know I speak for all of my LLR colleagues that we strive to continue to provide that same special place for our current and future students, but we are also always looking for ways to grow/build/improve on that. We know, we can accomplish this with you! :)
