Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced Saturday morning (10/12/24) that residents of Volusia & Flagler County are now eligible for financial assistance and other emergency resources in the wake of Hurricane Milton.

Per FEMA: “Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.”

Residents can submit their applications online at Home | disasterassistance.gov, use the FEMA mobile app, or call FEMA’s helpline at 800-621-3362.

Find a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) near you.

Please be advised that we share our list with other local toy drives. Our goal is to help as many people as we can so we ask that you DO NOT sign up for multiple toys drives.

To qualify for assistance you must show proof of receiving SNAP, WIC or Mediciad.

Breastfeeding is natural, but not like breathing; more like learning to walk. It takes time, practice, and there may be a few bumps along the way.

Many moms prepare for breastfeeding prenatally by taking breastfeeding classes and reading everything they can find about how to breastfeed. This is very important, but you never truly know what to expect until you get home with your baby. The Baby Place at AdventHealth Daytona Beach is here to help you with your breastfeeding experience.

Our Baby Bunch breastfeeding support group meets every Monday from 12:30pm - 2:30pm to offer moms the opportunity to ask questions and gain assistance from an IBCLC- Lactation Consultant in a small group setting. Baby Bunch provides a space for moms to connect with other breastfeeding moms so they can discuss highs and lows of their breastfeeding journey and share any challenges that they are experiencing. You will also have the opportunity to weigh and record your baby’s weight so you can see the positive results of all of your hard work. This group is for moms with babies age newborn to 12 months old. Baby Bunch is offered in person and is free to attend. Registration is recommended.

The 46th Annual Port Orange Holiday Parade is scheduled for Sunday, December 8th at 2:00 p.m. The parade will consist of bands and floats centered around this year’s theme - “Winter Wonderland.” The parade route starts at Jackson Street and will run east on Dunlawton Avenue to Spruce Creek Road. Please note, BOTH westbound and eastbound Dunlawton Avenue will be closed beginning at 1 pm from Nova Road to Powers Avenue.

At an SFA event, our surfers are provided a safe environment where two-to- four highly skilled and trained surf instructors carefully guide them into waves. Our surfers and their families are treated like rock stars and enjoy a day filled with a range of activities including stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, live music, face-painting, games, bounce houses, fire engine tours and much more. A catered lunch is also provided, all at no cost. This is a very special day where children with ASD interact with typical peers and wow families with their capabilities. These events are examples of inclusion at the highest level.

No Longer Fatherless is dedicated to providing a mentor for every boy without a father figure in their life. Currently we are serving Volusia County, FL with dreams of being all over the United States, one day.

Our organization recruits, trains, level 2 background checks, and matches mentors with fatherless boys in our community. Our mentors commit to one year of weekly, relational mentoring with their youth. These weekly meetings can be anything: help with homework, lunch at school, play a sport, go to a park, movie, restaurant, events, etc.

The type of activity is not important. The time you invest in a young man's life is what will impact his life forever. The statistics (see our statistics page) for a boy to grow up without a father figure are ugly, but the impact mentoring has on at-risk youth is amazing!

Join us for the most festive event of the year – the Lake Panasoffkee Lighted Christmas Boat Parade! Decorated boats will light up the lake as they cruise along the west side of Lake Panasoffkee from Idlewild Lodge to the South End. It’s a night full of holiday cheer, community fun, and beautiful lights!

Parade Start: 6:00 PM SHARP!

Judging: Happening at Pat’s Taps, where the most creative, festively decorated boat will win a prize!

School Readiness (SR) offers financial assistance to low-income families for child care, after-school care, and school-age care. SR programs are designed to help prepare children for kindergarten and beyond, and help families keep working or continue their education. Qualifying families will have a child who needs care and is between the ages of birth to 13 years old. APD - Agency for Person with Disabilities -State of Florida

APD supports individuals with unique abilities and their families in living, learning and working within their communities by creating multiple pathways to possibilities. APD identifies the service needs of people with developmental disabilities, and those individuals may receive social, medical, behavioral, residential, and/or therapeutic services.

In order to be eligible for services from the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (“APD”), an individual must have a developmental disability (as defined in section 393.063(12), Florida Statutes), which occurs prior to age 18 and constitutes a substantial handicap that can reasonably be expected to continue indefinitely. Disabilities served by APD include:

Intellectual disabilities (Full Scale IQ of 70 or below)
Severe forms of autism
Spina bifida cystica or myelomeningocele
Cerebral palsy
Prader-Willi syndrome
Down syndrome
Phelan-McDermid syndrome or
Individuals between the ages of 3-5 at high risk for a developmental disability

To apply for services from the Agency for Persons with Disabilities, which includes participation in the iBudget Home and Community-Based Services Waiver or placement in an intermediate care facility for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities (ICF/IID), apply to the APD office that serves your area, either by mail or by hand delivery. Even though the waitlist is long and could take years, the APD will prioritize cases upon their crisis criteria if an emergency happens. Hopefully, your child will never use their services, but if there’s an emergency and they need them is going to be easier for them to access services.
