My Narrative Ideas
- Possible depictions of DID which can be explored in the new story using Dr Jekyll and Hyde as an inspiration or even crossover. 
- A representation of how mental health can radically change someone, and the alienating experience they endure as a result of it. 
- A man who has mental health condition (schizophrenia) is amid a psychosis episode.
- His delusion leads him to believing he is the infamous Mr Hyde destined to commit lurid murders involving lots of decapitation. 
- Eventually he is caught and locked up in a psych ward. 
- Scene shifts to his case manager urging him to talk about his convictions. 
- That is when audience finds his name is in fact Larry Jekyll and he is not a man named Mr Hyde, and he has no personal connection to any individual named Mr Hyde and he was simply hallucinating these details as the case managers acquires his background. 
- A psychotic episode leads him to believing he is a man named Mr Hyde who is destined to conspire fear via lurid decapitation of whomever crosses his way in the pitch black. 
- The short story culminates with him in a desolate, dreary room in a psych ward, alienated from society for the well-being of the community, and himself.

Maybe I could also explore the idea of the witness deluding themself into blissful ignorance, believing that it never happened or that it wasn't Jekyll doing these things, so that the identity of Hyde wasn't built on just Jekyll alone but from everyone else's beliefs and set expectations that Jekyll is a good person.

I find it interesting how Robert Louis Stevenson is able to provide such detailed scenes with minimal words. Usually with a low word count, the stories would be succinct but there's this underlying mystery and uneasiness in all of the stories. Whenever the characters speak it's almost as if they're hushed, whispering in fear of an unknown force.

Probably add an extra scene with the maid looking out the window the next night, only the cold, dark streets greeted her. The blood had been cleaned and the poor old man's limbs were no longer splayed across the asphalt. Every sign of the incident occurring had disappeared, leaving the poor maid alone with nothing but her own thoughts and memories of the event that had transpired.

Incident at the Window 

I like the concept as there is probably a lot to write about Jekyll's transformation. 
Examples Of Stevenson's Writing: 
"The smile was struck out of his face." 
"They were both pale; and there was an answering horror in their eyes." 
"Froze the very blood of the two gentlemen below." 

I think this chapter was made mainly to raise suspense and keep the reader interested in the character of Dr Jekyll. 

The environment is described as "very cool and a little damp. Full of premature twilight." 

An idea for the piece I have is for either them to enter the house in an attempt to help Jekyll or for them to believe he is a demon and try to get rid of the demon they believe to by Mr Hyde. 

This is because they say "God forgive us, God forgive us." The theme of god is mentioned throughout the book.

- The gruesome descriptions of Hyde's slaughter of the innocent victim on the streets from an outsider's perspective.
 
Ideas that I have/themes I'd like to explore
I want to explore the theme of terror in the streets. The juxtaposition of the description of being 'brilliantly lit by the full moon' along with the feeling of peace and musing associated with the calm streets are fractured in an instant when Hyde appears.
Additionally, I would like to explore the animalistic characteristics associated with Hyde, as Stevenson often portrays Hyde's disheveled nature to be linked with animal characteristics for example the simile of 'ape-like fury.'

And maybe also that while she appears to feel sympathetic for the man, she doesn't report Jekyll, fearing that he may come back and attack her if she does; prioritizing her own safety over honoring the poor soul.

I think i also want to utilize repetition (something the author uses a lot) to further enforce the key ideas that i want to communicate.

Clear descriptions of the scene whilst leaving room for imagination to cause the reader to assume based off of small hints and build up an image from there is what the author uses to amp the horror of the scenes. That they're so gruesome and awful that they could not even be described. I want to try and use this advanced version of show not tell in a darker setting, make it seem as if the maid is truly trapped inside her own head and let the reader's theories of the scene swirl around. This could also play into the motif of silence used in the book, using the contrast of her silent voice and buzzing brain to emphasize that.

In this chapter 10, Jekyll writes a letter to someone and explains his experience and case as he turns into Hyde.
" He enjoyed being Hyde until he turned into Hyde one night without the help of the potion. It was at this moment he felt frightened and decided to stop the experiment as he did not want to be forever evil "
- his evil personality/ side takes over his normal consciousness, this may mean that his "normal" "sane" self was overpowered by his need for evil.

It is important to note that Jekyll knows what crimes Hyde commits, yet is quick to retake the potion and metamorphosis again anytime he wants. This damages Jekyll’s façade as an upstanding citizen and shows that evil is stronger.


-  Overall idea is the annihilation of good, the interconnection between these two concepts as Hyde's demeanour dominates the virtue of Jekyll as he drinks the vial of liquid, it highlights the conflict between the two. Lanyon describes the transformation between the two and my narrative idea is derived from these presented ideas as writing it from Jekyll or Hyde's perspective provides an insight to the thought process of his evil to good, the contradiction between societal and world views. During the transition, the description of the struggle of containing the noble side of him and emotional weight that lingers beneath supressing the evil side. or the description of pushing the evil to tramp the good.

"They were both pale; and there was an answering horror in their eyes." 
The repetition of "God forgive us, God forgive us," shows terror through repetition which is something I would use. 

I want to depict the fear in the characters along with the confusion and unease that they are feeling. 

I want to add more of a thriller aspect to unfold a revelation around Dr Jekyll's case. They might find the potion but think he is lying. Jekyll perhaps trying to hide his connections to Hyde when they find him.

- The 'double liife' Dr Jekyll leads due to his counterpart, Hyde as he believes "man is not truly one, but truly two".
-  His counterpart's name, Hyde, a pun for "hide" is a guise. His alter identity he keeps concealed for a majority of the text.
- Potential mental health issues hindering his ability to function normally in society
- The insidious nature of human beings can often triumph over their naïve, kind-hearted nature.
- Duality and it's detrimental repercussions.
- Silence can speak volumes, occasionally even more prominent than words.
- A human's refusal to acknowledge the pernicious aspects, often drowning in denial as ignorance proves itself blissful, but only for a fraction of time.
- Stevenson insinuates people are capable of portraying animalistic tendencies. This is scrutinized via Hyde's lurid and remorseless slaughtering of Carew with "ape-like fury".
