The respiratory system works closely with the circulatory system for the transfer and transport of oxygen and carbon dioxide molecules. Every cell in our body needs oxygen to function properly. We bring oxygen into our body through the process of inhalation. We breathe in air through our mouth and nose, and it travels through our trachea (windpipe) into our lungs and eventually into tiny sacs called alveoli.
