         <description><![CDATA[<div>African Americans </div><ol><li>After the Civil War, life was bittersweet for AAs. They were not slaves anymore but were often under attack by white supremacists. </li><li>The West offered them a second chance for black families to start a new life, so the government offered that too, so 40,000 AAs cram into steamer ships to sail up the Mississippi to head West.</li><li>There was a line of work where blacks gained more respect and equality from whites-cattle herding. A quarter of the Cowboys were AA. The chance for equality lies “home on the range” and blacks felt free. </li></ol>]]></description>
