We chose this topic as we feel very strongly about the amount of homework that we are given. At first, we were going to conduct a survey of how many kids in our class struggle with homework, but then we decided to look at the bigger picture, and expand to the homework level in our country. This gives us a much better understanding of the children in our country who struggle with homework, and helps us view. By looking at statistics and data, we are able to see and understand the effect that homework truly has on individuals around the country, and the levels of stress it applies to our everyday lives.things differently

By looking at these statistics, we can see that homework has a very negative effect on children's mental health. 56% of students surveyed that homework is a primary stressor in their lives, which contributes to migraines, ulcers, and lack of sleep. Under 1% of students in America said that homework was not a stressor in their lives. Sources also say that some children do not have access to high-speed Wi-Fi and struggle with completing their homework on time. Others have available parents to help them understand their homework, but many don't. This gives certain children advantages that others are not able to have. Many children are lucky enough to have access to tutors, but many cannot afford one. These less privileged children struggle so much with homework, even when working their hardest. If the workload decrease, so would their stress level.

1) EdWeek.com gives a good range of statistics, but does not go into much detail on how homework affects children mental health.

2) (EdWeek.com) Instead of providing specific examples and creating a persuasive argument on how children struggle, they give percentages that are very vaguely labeled, and not convincing.

3) (Edweek.com) The main focus of the article is how parents cannot help the children do their work, but they barely talk about the struggle of kids working. Instead of focusing on the bigger issue, they get sidetracked and trail away from the main point.

4) Pewresearch.org does gives a lot of details on how coronavirus affected children and their ability to learn, but does not suggest that the workload may be overbearing, which would strengthen their argument.

5) (Pewresearch.org) They discuss how children do not have access to high speed internet, but fail to provide any alternatives on how to help kids gain more access to technology

6) Playgroundequipment.com shows a map of the U.S and the percent of children that are stressed out by homework in each state. However, they skipped over at least half of the states, making their argument much less strong.

7) Playgroundequipment.com also shows data from a range of countries, but the work load in those countries are very different than the workload in America. They could have gone into depth on how the workloads vary in each country, but did not.
