We had a guest panelist who was a recent graduate of the EMS program. We brainstormed questions for him, and learned more about what skills are needed to be apart of the healthcare field. One reoccurring theme we saw was EMPATHY.

We then used our CPR training to show and demonstrate the skills that we talked about that were necessary as mentioned within our driving question. We used Anti-problem to think about what CPR would look like if we did not have those skills such as empathy.

Team Building

We started our day with a team building excercise. Students created towers from toothpicks and marshmellows. They started with a plan on how to build a tower and then started the process with only minutes to build. The building process was done together but in complete silence!

We reflected and shared out what went well and what they found difficult. We found day 3 the most challenging as we were overwhelmed with solutions, but once we narrowed it down we felt good about it.

We also learned a lot! Some of what was shared was the importance of the valuable skills such as CPR and also the importance of solving a solution with empathy.

For our entry event on Monday we visited the Grand Haven Fire Department and the Zeeland Hospital.

We brainstormed what essential skills health workers might need. Some qualities we came up with are: empathy, honesty, kindness, patience, calmness, being respectful, and being well trained.

Students then worked brainstorming camp needs and what it might look like using ideas from their experience of what elements are in a camp that makes it "fun".

We then used "dot voting" in the hallway to determine which idea we were going to pitch on Friday. We decided to create a pitch for a camp.

Narrowing Down

To narrow down our ideas, we used the "100 dollar test" to pick which ideas were worth the most to us. We then created one minute "elevator pitches" to share our top idea to the other groups.

We brainstormed as many questions as we could about the driving question. This gave us a better understanding of what we were trying to solve.

Students then worked on connecting the driving question to the solution in their presentation to show that they were connected. They did this by repeating the driving question in their slideshow. They determined that this demonstrated the need as presented in the driving quesion.

Students then worked on creating a more detailed and thought out version of their solution. They also learned that our CTC Parter is already planning on using elements from their idea!!

We then looked at what we need to investigate and think of when coming up with a solution. We thought of what activities, environments, interactions, objects, and users that would apply to healthcare workers (AEIOU). This helped us think about the day to day life of healthcare workers and what it would look like.

Students then took our ideas, and each table grouped then into categories. Students then picked our top 3 from each category, and did a gallery walk to see others ideas and get new suggestions and ask questions about other's ideas.
