I would continue the discussion by asking how the Internet is different from being in the neighborhood, which could lead to meaningful discussions around safety and online responsibility.

The Mindful Messaging Video reminded me about kindergarten classroom discussions on kindness and voice tone when we are speaking to one another in the classroom. An extension or activity that teachers can use to teach this to younger students is to play a game of telephone during circle time to hear the end result of how a phrase sounds or how it has changed.

I love that this is being introduced by an ELA teacher. It is hard to get middle schoolers to connect or plug in 100% but I so often see ELA classes deeply in conversation on a variety of topics. If we rolled this together with our WordGen material and turned it into a week's worth of content we'd easily get kids fully engaged and be able to bring several subjects into the conversation. My department is usually the only ones who implement this material and meeting only 2-3 times/week makes it difficult to extensively cover this type of material.
I envision turn keying this back to a handful of willing colleagues who in turn could collaborate with classes we share to try this pilot out.
