Clarify misconceptions, pre-teach mathematical terminology, practice worksheet where students show their skills in identifying place value to 100 and basic two digit addition and subtraction. (skills they must have BEFORE beginning the unit)

Ongoing throughout the unit and include class discussions, classwork and homework, students explanations of their work, group work, as well as projects where students get to practice their skills utilizing real world applications.

At the end of the unit students will perform a project in which they are given an "income" and "saving account" and have to buy and furnish a home over a two month period. Students get to use real life data and prices to figure out what to spend their money on and if they can afford it. Students will be required to show all of their work on scratch paper and also display their "dream home" on a vision board and share their findings and costs with the class.
